Greenhouse of Old Windows

My beautiful boyfriend & I have been working on this for the last couple Sundays (see link). I wrote a really long post about it but it seems to have gone into the black hole! Mostly I want your feedback on what we have done so far... the gap above the window on the right side will be filled in with colored bottles. :) Feel free to leave comments on my page as well, it's easier for me to find them later. :)

Buy one for yourself, put a bow on it and say to DH, "oh thank you hunny" as you give him a hug. We do that a lot here. Buy something, tell another, put this up for my birthday, Christmas or whatever and then we get exactly what we want. We buy things and give to the DD and say let the boys wrap this for us. It is really as much fun as getting a surprise package.

How appropriate that I saw this came back up when my DH was making some repairs to the greenhouse. The lower window of the door fell apart and just today we bought cedar shingles to cover the plywood at the gable peaks. I'll throw some paint on it and we'll be ready to go for another year. From Chick coop I accidentally put this picture in the wrong folder. If you want to work backwards you can see our latest trash to treasure project, the chicken house / garden shed. I am collecting materials as I go (for FREE or cheap) My next door neighbor is giving me his left over lumber from his house he is having built... The windows I intend to use are either going to be the old wooden grid style sash type window...OR I may have access to about 40-50, 1950 casement windows. I do not k-now the size of the windows, as I have not seen them yet(they are coming from an apartment remodel) so at least they should be pretty uniform in size/shape etc. I dont know whether or not they are double paned, probably not. since I'm searching still for the materials, I'm very flexible on what I use etc. I will be also getting some double paned sliding glass doors (standard size, 3ft x 78 inches). these will probably be used for the roof or possibly the roof and door? I'm hoping to find some french doors for the entry.... I will also try for something about 6 feet wide, 8-10 feet deep with rafters? and an A-frame top. the exact measurements of course will be dictated by the size of the windows. Basically, I was hoping to get feedback (pro's and con's) from anyone who has built something similiar and to find out tips/ideas on materials that were used, etc. I have seen a few GH on here that I liked, and would try to improve upon...one is mao-tse-mom (if you search her name, you'll see what she did) the other is kellyfg...I actually like hers better and would aim for something more like it, just bigger.

Thanks, I have a question now... how to retain heat in a solar greenhouse? :) We are putting slate on the floor and I was thinking about tires, rocks, water barrel?? What is the best way??

Where will you have space for plants with barrels of water or piles of rocks and tires? Better think about buying a small heater, a fan or two and some bubble-wrap insulation. :)

Bubble wrap is definitely on the list. :) It's bigger than it looks, I know it looks tiny in the photo because there are no people in it, once the windows are in the roof I will try to get a picture with us in it.

Well, we got behind on this project due to my being hit by a drunk driver, but did a little work on it this weekend. I added a new picture! (see link above) The windows on the sides of the roof have hinges, and the front/back roof windows pop out.

We got the door on! I have decided to add a section on to the back and fill it with water jugs. Also, we will make a pull-across tarp-ish thing with 2x4's attached to drag across the inner ceiling on cool nights. Any other ideas? Paint should be happening soon-ish.
