Craftsman Riding Mower Overheats When Blade Is Engaged

I replaced the deck belt for my Craftsman Riding Mower, but in doing so I think I did something wrong. I can start the mower and the engine runs fine UNTIL I engage the blade. When the blade engages the engine begins to run hard, and within 10 minutes I get smoke coming out of the engine (and oil disappears). It's apparent to me that I did not put something on correctly when I put the new blade on!

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of the deck and the pins so I'm not sure which part could be incorrectly installed - I'm just hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to avoid have Sears come out to the house as I do not have a warranty on it.

Thanks in advance!
