Bethlehem Nursery last visit ever
Comments (3)Thanks for the story. It's important to pay respect to these pioneers. Certainly, no one else was offering so many Sciadopitys cultivars before him. I'll always remember Bethlehem nursery when I see my 'Ossorio Gold', and 'Henge Weeping form'. Wish I'd ordered a couple more cultivars. Deer took a big bite of the latter this winter; of course it tasted terrible so they just left it on the ground....See MoreCaribbean Jewel - Ever heard of or seen this plant?
Comments (5)After concluding that the email address problem was a .com vs a .net issue, I got through to Dewar. Here is Bill Dewar's response: "Caribbean Jewels are botanically classified as a Scilla peruviana. The bulbs come from a company located on West Coast named Golden State Bulb Growers." A Google search shows that some of the common names for this are Peruvian Lily, Star of Peru, Caribbean Lily and Cuban Lily. Has anyone tried it in Florida? Can it tolerate our heat and humidity?...See MoreReeseville Ridge Nursery
Comments (0)Has anyone ever tried them? I bought some plants earlier this summer just to get an idea - Pretty good, I'd say! Admittedly, they are 1st year seedlings (mostly), but they sell some rare and hard to find trees and shrubs that I've never seen elsewhere. I came across them by chance looking on the internet. What is neat about them is that they grow a lot more things than they list online - If you send them an email inquiring about a species, more than likely they've got it. I should mention they mostly deal with native woody plants, but they do a few ornamentals, as well (not to say that natives aren't ornamental!)...See MoreHave you ever received free plants because the nursery sent wrong item
Comments (8)I got a free one, but I had to email the nursery that is was not what they described in their catalog. They were very kind and sent a replacement at no cost. It wasn't totally their fault though because I found out later this plant is often mislabled in the nursery trade. It is Magnolia crassipes, which is suppose to have dark purple/red flowers. I believe the misidentification stems down from the Strybring Aboretum, so many people are growing an imposter that looks like M. laevifolia as M. crassipes. But at other times, there are other mail order nurseries that just gave me the run around. They say they will give me a coupon or discount on my next order. When I email them about it later, they never respond back. For those sources, I just don't order from them again. Embothrium, that may be true. Some nurseries are serious about customer satisfaction and take their reviews seriously. BUT there are plenty of nurseries that get bad reviews consistently and still manage to maintain customers. They seem to make duping customers into an art form. They may get bad reviews and I know people will still order from a certain place just because the plants they have are difficult to find else where....See More- 12 years ago
