To be quite honest I replaced mine about fours years ago and don't remember the step x step way to go about it. The clutch is a one piece item and there is not much to replacing it. I removed the motor but don't recall if this was needed. Basically, you need to disconnect the clutch cable, blade, and drive belt. If your going to attempt it, go for it and I can look at mine and a lot more will come to me as how to go about it. I speak highly of the JX75 simply because I own two and recently went out to buy a new one or something comparable. I found out a few things. One, John Deere no longer makes any mowers and the ones they do sell are steel decks, I think their made by Toro. The $700.00 + Honda mower has 10 speeds, plastic deck and the drive handle/speed control area is made up of a lot of plastic. The Toro Commercial $1,000.00, looks nice but when I push down on the handle, as to lift the front wheels of the ground, it felt very heavy. Just this Friday night I bought a Lawnboy commercial model 22271 and it's pretty nice but not a JX75. It list for $975.00 and I got it for $675.00. Sorry to ramble here, my two JX75 are getting old, still work great but wanted a fresh mower and I was taken back as to what is out there. A lot of bells, plastic and whistles but no real quality. Basically, it comes down to any company can buy a motor, let's a Honda motor and put it on their decks but where it falls apart is the quality of the wheels and drive system. Good luck with clutch and check ebay, they are on there from time to time.

In this case, the culprit is likely that the PTO clutch needs to have its "air gap" adjusted. PTO clutches all have an air gap present between the rotor and stator portions of the clutch assembly. Over time, the air gap increases due to wear. Thermal expansion of parts during operation will TEMPORARILY increase the air gap even more and this addition to the already too much air gap (from wear) can develop into a scenario where the hot parts are simply too far apart for the clutch coil to affect engagement. I am also from the Lehigh Valley I have 3 of these tractors and have done plenty of work on them. There are several things that can bog it down. it is somewhat normal for them to loose some rpm when they engauge. But here are three things I would really look at closely. Is there anything holding back the blades or the deck such as srting in the blades or a bad bearing, 2) the adjustment may be off on the throttle linkage and 3rd the adjustment on the clutch may be off. Engauge it slowly and see if that helps. Ihad to replace both my timing belts because mice got into the engines and chewed the belts but when this happens they will not start. Good luck Jim

Sorry I am a novice - and I am relying on manuals and diagrams to describe things. I am trying to engage the deck via the attachment clutch control not the ground drive clutch. Did a full tune-up 2 weeks ago. When I started mowing this past weekend (2nd mow of the season - no issues during first), I heard a noise when I engaged the blades. Made one pass on the lawn and it was cutting fine. Turns out the noise was the left mandrel pulley that was replaced late last season and it was loose. I tightened it and replaced the left brake arm on the deck since it was worn down to metal (5 years old) and I had the replacement on hand. After re-attaching the deck I fired up the engine, rode out on the lawn and when I tried to engage the clutch control and start the blades - no blade movement. I have checked the pulleys(mandrel and idle) on the deck and all are moving the belt looks OK and when the clutch control is engaged - the brake arms on the mandrel pulleys release. I originally thought I had installed the brake arm incorrectly - but it looks fine. Trying to understand how the blades engage so that I can systematically determine where the issue is. Any help is much appreciated.
