Early band delivery from Rogue Valley

Hi folks, I'd like to know what you think I should do. Last year I ordered three roses from Rogue Valley, with instructions to deliver them at "the proper time for zone 6B." I gave the same instructions for several other rose suppliers, who all shipped this week or later. Rogue Valley shipped my order on 3/18, though, rather early - and they were tiny bands with a few leaves and pencil-thick stems. Not having a good place to put them and the day of delivery being overcast with temps in the mid-40s, I decided to put them outside in the ground with a bale of hay around to protect them.

Big mistake. A few days later we had a frost, and two of them have had their leaves turn brown and dead. The stems are still green, though, and things have warmed up. Should I hold out hope? If they die, is it my fault, or should I ask RV for replacements because they sent small bands too early for my zone?

Thanks,

Rick
