pruning my strange climber

I'm new to rose growing, more or less, and I can't find any information on pruning that fits this climber I've got. All of the pruning advice seems pointed at already-decently-shaped bushes, rather than deformed ones. I'd love it if someone can help me!

I bought a bare-root White Dawn climber last summer and planted it. It had 4-5 canes cut to 12" or so, and most of them put out a little sprout or something last summer. One of them, however, put off this shoot to the right of the plant that grew about 6 feet and bloomed all up and down it in the space of about 2 months. Another cane, shortly after, put off another shoot in the same direction (off to the right) that grew to about 18".

Then we had this harsh winter. It appears that all of the original canes died completely. The ONLY two canes alive (and they're sprouting like crazy) are the 18" and 6 foot ones that are both off to the right.

How in the world do I prune this thing to force more life at the base and off to the left again?
