The old Espoma products from last year contained synthetic sources of nitrogen and were not organic certified. The new Espoma products on the market this years are organic certified. The Espoma Rose Tone label recommends 18 cups per 100 sq ft or 1 1/4 cup per rose. From this you can conclude that Espoma reckons 14 roses per 100 sq ft. That seems like as good an estimate as any and if you apply it to Pro-Gro's 2-3 lbs per 100 sq ft, you come up with 0.14 to 0.21 lbs per rose. Pro-Gro mentions that the density of their product is 50 lbs per cubic foot. This amounts to 1 lb per 2.5 cups. So, in cups, the suggestion would be 1/3 to 1/2 cups of Pro-Gro per rose.

I notice a curious thing about the cayenne; it seems when ever I pick all the fruits off, even big green ones, the plant then over the next week or so has a flush of vegetative growth and height added. and when ever their are multiple peppers on the plant it stops its vegetative growth until I pick the next round of peppers. My roses are like that. In fact, I think all fruiting plants are like that. They bloom/set fruit then put the majority of the plant's energy into that fruit. It's the next generation - the hope of the future. With roses you deadhead when the blooms are done, forcing more growth and more blooms. I wonder if cayennes have a rose gene? ;)

Sam: does your Achilles tendon hurt to wear shoes with heels? I don't like shoes with heels: one of my foot is shorter than the other. I actually do more exercise on the treadmill than outside ... I can wear my husband Walmart open-heel plastic clog, I insert a memory foam inside ... and wear that on the treadmill. I wear size 7 woman, but I need a BIG shoe to insert the thick $5 memory foam. The plastic clog has bigger toe-box than running shoe, plus no need for lacing.
