Kim - am so glad you got all set up over bryan way. did you find a good source for sux? made a trip up here to longhorn country to check out the spots we suggested? your gh looks much like the one i built last year - works great, no? WSG - i am right up the road from Kim and here we get perhaps 6-12 nights a yr when it goes to 25-32 (lite freeze by my definition) and perhaps a couple below 25 (hard freeze - again my definition). (my brother is saying my estimation is off by as many as 7 days (combined) per year...but mom agrees with me - so there ya have it LOL) either way, i doubt Kim will get much use of a heater. i use those little xmas lites myself. lol kim by the time it feels fall to you from ohio it will be spring again!

Hey there Leaves- If the Calendula is a hardy perennial variety- I would say DO IT!! Your selection as listed sounds like it is all hardy to this zone- and Old Ma nature will take good care of them- She will tell em when to germ and you wouldn't believe how smart those little sprouts are- they keep their heads low and grow the most fantastic roots while they wait for warmer weather to grow up tall. And you won't have to worry about hardening off, they will never go through that stress and be much bigger healthier plants because of it. Yes- they will be looking like they are not growing for a long while- and side by side with indoor starts they will be punier for a while- but just a little ways after transplanting- they will be much bigger in no time! Unless they fry in the heat- or get drowned by rain or dried out by wind- you will have some very healthy plants in no time! I put some hardier and a few tender annuals out in the cold frame this morning- And I am looking for a few more not hardy to this zone to take a gamble with..... I may even start a little salad garden.... just to see if I can do it this early. HHmmmm tomatoes reseed, I better start a few of those too! Julie

Rina and everyone else gave great ideas and advice! Do you plan on using that greenhouse year after year? Why don't you call the company for an 'auto vent' which they do sell or at least they should and replace one of those panels with it. This way once it reaches what ever temps you get in there, it opens and lets the heat escape..I have one myself. Then you should invest in a good space heater, one that you can set the temps at, a good small fan to keep the air circulating, and what I got that has lasted years and well worth the investment, a 'solar pool cover' clear plastic, one that will drape over the entire greenhouse during the coldest months so that you can save on heat and electricity and the temps in there will stay more stable. It will not allow heat to escape at night and will not allow your greenhouse to get that hot or that fast by day. You mighty want to consider installing and electrical outlet out in that greenhouse verses using long extension cords for safety hazard.. Make sure that water does not drip on your plug fro condensation in there or it will strip the fuse or outlet. For your area, that is what I would do. For my area, that is what I have done, but I keep orchids and warm tropicals in there requiring much warmer temps and a BIG FAT electrical bill until I can replace my space heaters with a gas one.. P.S. See where your extension cord is going into the greenhouse and keeping your door open? What don't you dig until you reach the bottom of the frame from the outside and stick the extension cord under it to go into the inside? It's much neater and then you can completely close that door.
