polite obedient plant?

Has anyone tried growing Physostegia 'Miss Manners' or Physostegia virginiana subspecies praemorsa? Both of these are claimed to be non-invasive in the garden... but are they? I would love to hear people's experience with either of these -- especially if you've been able to observe the plant for a couple of years.

I have had 'Miss Manners' for at least 4 years and it is indeed mannerly. It's planted on the low end of a berm in well drained soil and the clump has only slightly increased from the original gallon size plant.

It did likewise for me. but make sure you deadhead if you don't want lots of seedlings.

In the photo, it doesn't look like the variegated plant. The leaves look glossy green, but it is still lovely. I have many vegetable seeds that we could exchange.

I have 'Vivid' - a deep pink one and its never been very aggressive. Its definitely a favorite for late season.

Why IS it called "Obedient Plant", when, from what I hear, it normally isn't "well behaved"?

Linnea, it's called obedient plant because the flower stem can be twisted around, and then it stays (more or less) where you put it.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I've decided to try 'Miss Manners'.

H'mm, interesting...a moldable plant?? Stays where you put it, yet escapes to seed or invade if it can? Sounds kind of devious to me, LOL.
