Well first I will have to figure out how to post pictures on this site. I just bought a new digital camera so I will take some pictures of the construction. If I don't put them here I can post them on the same site where I have pictures of my Corvette show car. I know how to upload pictures to that site. I was going to order two of them and put them end to end like several have done with the 6x8 but I just ordered one if it is not big enough I can order another one. My wife is the one that is into flowers I just do the grunt work for her. Between building the greenhouse and getting my car ready for the shows in the spring is going to keep me busy. All the wife will do with this is grow flowers from seed. I built her a water garden and it has flowers all around the ponds and it is pretty in the summer. Last few years I spent about $1000.00 a year at the local nursery for annuals to plant in the water garden plus all the perennials. The greenhouse will save enough to pay for itself besides the wife loves to grow them.

clvlnd- It all epends how warm you want it. I have a 10' X 15' single pane glass greenhouse in Zone 8. I heat my greenhouse with an electric, 900W/1500W oil-filled heater. It's got a thermostat and I keep it on the lowest setting so the temp stays above freezing. You can usually get a decent one for about $50 (e.g., from Amazon). If you get an electric heater that draws more than 1500W, or run more than one, you're going to blow the breaker on a standard 15 amp circuit, especially if you have anything else plugged in. If you want to use something bigger, you're going to have to seriously upgrade the wiring that supplies electricity to your GH. One of the reasons I can get by with a small heater is that I also have 3 seed-starting mats that measure 1.5' X 4', and each one only draws 100W. I just set my sensitive plants and seedlings on that and everything seems to be happy. Since I usually have a power outage a couple of times during the winter, I have a small propane heater for backup.

Jimmydo2 THANKS for the kind words. I was thinking about you today I remember you said you would probably start on your's over the weekend. I have never built a GH before but compared to somethings that I have built the GH was not all that bad. A few years ago I wanted to put a D1-R Procharger on my Corvette and the company that builds it told me that it could not be done. When I ask why they said their engineers had not figured out a way to make it work and that if I got it to work I would not be able to put the hood on. I bought the supercharger and installed it on my vette show car and have a house full of trophies that I won with it. This makes the greenhouse seem like child's play. Getting back to the GH it did try my patience mostly because I thought that all I would have to do was assemble it and that was not the case. With all the mistakes and the modifications that needs to be done to make it survive a thunder storm it turned out to be a PITA Jimmy i didn't set the forum up for the mail but if you need to contact me I have a account at hotmail you can reach me through it. Yesterday I laid the ground cloth then put down Styrofoam insulation covered it with sand and then laid the floor it is made from patio blocks. Took the day off today to rest and took the wife to a really big nursery today and she bought a few plants.

Hi funnylady, Yes, we did... The important word to note here is 'did' :-( Not sure if you have heard of the horrible wind storm the NW had a few months back.... Well it hit here with a vengeance. Normal high wind speeds of 15-20 mph (and that is a wind storm! Usually it's abt 0-3 mph) was clocked up the street at 84mph. Good new was.... Greenhouse frame still standing... other good news... I was able to locate all of the panels, even though several were abt 5-7 acres away behind our barn or some in the other direction out at the road ... Basically all went together well, (except we had planned on changing the doors to hinged rather than sliders) and we didn't get around to screwing the panels down (although they were double clipped). Overall the GH fared winter well... rain, snow and ice were no problem... but those horrific winds, well that was another story... We were without power for abt 3 days and friends had nineteen 100'+ Fir trees that came down (we were lucky, only branches everywhere) all our trees held their ground. Not sure any greenhouse could have withstood that windstorm, but had we screwed the panels in as planned we might have had even less damage.... Ah well.... BTW panels were all fine... are installed and screwed in now... don't want to tempt fate, but think it just might withstand that huge storm this time....
