I just took delivery on a new 300r with, I believe, The first JD tractor shovel delivered in the US. I'm very interested in more info on this LOADER. Could'nt get much info from the ebay site. Anyone know the scoop?

It's a neat idea but I wonder if the frame is up to the task. It looks like it just bolts onto the frame about 12 inches behind the front wheels.

150 lbs. out in that bucket will put one heck of a bending moment into the tractor's frame. If there's no other support or reinforcement, the tractor's sheet metal c-shaped frame will eventually snap or buckle.

The auction says he makes these as a hobby, so that probably explains the relative lack of info.

I'd like to find out if he plans in making them for other brands of tractors.

Well I don't have to worry about it I have a JDX485 w/45 loader and a White GT2055 w/ a kwick-way loader. But I wish somebody had come out with something like this when I couldn't affored my toys Back when I was in the U.S. Army. Something like that would have be nice on a older 1980's 130 or 180 lawn tractor.

Not a problem. Just do a little mechanics, and some rough guess work. Think of it as a moment balance problem. Can you hang a weight of 150 pounds off the front of the tractor, plus the bucket?

Assume the 150 pound load in the bucket is hanging 2.5 feet in front of the front wheels of the tractor. Add to that the loader assembly, which I'll asume can be described as another point load of 150 pounds, at an aggregate distance of 2 feet in front of the front wheels.

150*2.5 + 150*2 = 675 foot-pounds.

Now consider the counterbalance. The tractor, let me guess that with the mower deck on, plus a half full gas tank, say it is 350 pounds? I've tried to be conservative here, I'll bet I've guessed too low on this. With the engine in front, say that we can represent it with a 60-40 split as two point loads, with 40% on the rear axle. Given a roughly 4 foot wheelbase for that tractor from the JD website, this comes out to 140 pounds at a distance of 4 feet behind the front wheels. To this, add a 180 pound rider. (I'll bet thats a lowball estimate too.) Say the rider acts as a point load 3 feet behind the front wheels. Finally, add in a pair of suitcase weights, 80 pounds, plus 15 pounds for a bracket to hold them, roughly 5 feet behind the front wheels.

140*4 + 180*3 + 95*5 = 1575 foot-pounds

Its not even close. I might have been wrong in some of my guesses, but not by far enough to make the tractor tip forward. At the very worst, if the bucket is fully loaded, with no rear weights on the tractor, and IF the rider then steps off the tractor, then I'd expect to see some interesting action. With rear weights it should be a stable system as long as the mower is on relatively flat ground.

Nice analysis.

I think it is important to mention that any claims notwithstanding that something like this is meant for moving/loading piles of mulch or leaves.

Not sure of the density of earth, but I suspect that with dirt, gravel, sand, etc, a full bucket would be more than 150 lbs.

And I might say, as an alternative to a wheel barrow for these tasks something like this is very attractive.

I think it would make a nice converstation piece.Something to take to a few tractor shows during the summer and fall season for that type of thing.Other then that I feel it would be limited to just that.Looks nice and the guy did a nice job and im sure has a lot of time in it.Looks as if the loader weight is more then the tractor weight without anything in the bucket.Might be an illusion however.

Interesting design/concept, but without further details, I'm not sure it wouldn't destroy/damage major components on a unit that size, i.e., front axle, spindles, frame to accept that load, counter balance needed, etc.,

Boy that loader is up to $670.00 on ebay and the reserve is still not met. If somebody want's that loader that Bad. They might as well save some money and Buy a Johhnny Bucket.

That alot for a Toy. I paid $1,000 for a 1974 JD140H3. My wife was ready to shoot me for that one. To many Garden Tractors is what she muttered and I have Bought one more Tractor and been given 3more since then. John Deere She said If I buy anymore it's a one way ticket to the funny farm for me. Yet the Cub Cadet 2206 we have is Her tractor.

What Your Dealer doesn't know won't hurt Him.

The problem with these items on a base lawn tractor is not whether it can handle a 150 pound load, which it probably can. Some loose dirt or mulch will probably be fine. The problem is when the owner thinks they have a full size front end loader, and tries to move/push around a mountain. Then he ends up bending or breaking his frame.

As long as you know and understand the limits of such a tool, it will do its job very nicely.

That would more than likely void the warrenty. Only if the attachmnent is approved for mounting by the manufacturer. Will the manufacturer honnor the warrenty. For istance kwick-way loader company produces loader and Backhoe for a number of tractors Like the Cub Cadet 3000 series and MTD has approved it for mounting on the tractor it will not void the warrenty same goes for JD machines and others.
