I'm sorry that you've put yourself in the position of being scolded, Sandy, but Ken is absolutely right. If you think that it's okay to break off pieces of plants at a nursery, garden center, public or private planting, then those plants will look pretty terrible by the end of the day after a dozen more people like you get through with them. What you should do, Sandy Maszle, is to take your pictures without damaging the plant, in situ, as many thousands of people have before visiting the Gardenweb. The vast majority of us know not to 'rip off' or 'pinch' pieces of someone else's plants. Funny....both of those terms also mean to steal or rob. Ask a garden center owner how he/she feels about it. There won't be any ambivalence in the reply. Had you ever thought of your act as dishonest?

Thanks for your comments, I like the daffodils, I reckon if you plant rhem deeply, propperly, weeding wont harm them, and they can get really old around here Apart from that I will then stick to mulching and keep few Ladys mantle on the strip between the kiwi plants. it was an odd year, late frost killed all new foliage, they resprouted, and now, after a long dry spell, 2 looked quite bad (hadn't watered their spot properly), the third had dipped into water for near by roses (I guess), and managed to send out a new, really long shoot, yei!

It's possible for citrus trees to survive being left outside in Seattle but usually not a good idea. Citrus trees in containers have less cold hardiness than trees in the ground because the roots have less insulation, and the smaller rootspace also makes it more difficult for the plant to be able to vigorously recover during the growing season. Best bet for leaving potted citrus outside would be to place them in a spot sheltered from wind where they will receive plenty of warm sun during the Winter. Typically the citrus that survive will be the slightly more cold hardy varieties like Meyer lemon, Calamondin, or mandarins. Seattle generally tends to have about a 2-week window of freezing temperatures, so it would be important to protect the trees during that time. (Although there are occasional freezes outside that window) Reality is you probably won't be able to practicably bring the trees inside during every freeze, but that may be okay (most years) assuming you bring the trees inside during the very depth of continuously cold temperatures (that 2-week window I was talking about), since that's when the temperature will drop the lowest. A quick light freeze or a little frost will not necessarily severely injure citrus. It's also worth pointing out that it's been an unusual year in this region and hasn't gotten that cold.
