RC, if you call 70 & 73 LB "light"............you must be a very muscular brute! At least they won't require any added down pressure when bucking logs.

mowie thats not the model it was the year. The LB weights 7.2 lbs with an over size bar and chain. the 1.8/10" craftsman weights 7.9 lbs. I haven't seen anything lighter except maybe the Mini MAC. Even today with all the plastic it hard to get below 7 lbs.?

Rc: Sounds like your as long in the tooth as me Bro ! How Old are your Vintage Saws ? I have Two Old Pioneers , a P-20 c/w Oregon 16" Roller Tip and a 11-60 c/w Oregon 21" Roller Tip aka 1967 & 66 respectively . I just purchased two new saws a Husky Rancher 455 for me and a Stil 345 for my Son , who now helps the Old Man with the heavy stuff since I have Hip Replacement In Apr. Actually did not mind the weight of the 11-60 when bucking , but sure liked the P-20 when limbing lol. I was shocked at how light the new saws are ,or perhaps its just my age making the Old ones feel xtra heavy . It was advice from forum members that made the selection choice for me much easier. Also its gives me comfort with the vibration isolation and kickback protection afforded via the new saws. Hey Were in Oklahoma are you from Rc ? Travelled to Oklahoma City back in the 80's on my Harley , still remember the Red Dust residue on my Bike every morning lol and the Hail Storm ...Ouch !

oldest one I got is a poulan model 20#, maybe mid-60's, the LB lighting I brought new in feb. 1971 (left over model) the basket case craftsman 1.8 probably a late 70's model or early 80's I got off ebay for 5 bucks. only thing it needed was crank case press valve caused it smoked bad. Somebody on the forum told me what was wrong with it (it may have been mowie??, but I can't remember (effects of my post brain tumor I guess??).

I have a husky 345 my wife got me for xmas one year, it laid around in the box for 3 years before I thought I had a need to use it. I also have 011 S and two poulan wood sharks. I also noticed the difference in Vib from the husky vs. poulans! Woodsharks are pretty tough, I cut many cedar and blackjack oaks stumps out, hard on bars and chains, but they are cheap and easy to replace. weedeater collection is mostly reborn throw-aways except for the Ryobi 4 stroke that I brought new 8 years ago.

live about 10 east of OKC. Been here for 16 years after retiring out of AF. Sorry to hear about your hip! My hips and knees are still good, back has 3 cracked disks, but I have learned what I can do and can't do. got about 3 more years and I can retire a second time for good. Well, I think????

I had an ancient Homelite saw that weighed a lot! It was a two-cycle, and when ya set 'er down on a log, ya didn't have to press down very hard-it just ate its way thru.
I bought it used for $35, back in the 60's, and used it a lot. I sold it to a friend, and he treated it just like he treated everything else he had, including his wife! Stored it in a 3-sided shed with a leaky roof. Last time i was at his place, the shed had fallen down and covered everything up! Ain't been there fer a long time. I figured it was his, so i never said anything.

well, I done a search of my old posts and it was techdave that gave me that wonderful advice so I didn't have to disassemble it after I assembled it. Never really had any of the BIG saws of yester year (20" or above). But, ran a couple. Some I could verily pull to get started and Yes I agree you didn't have to put any down pressure on them (not that you have to). thanks again to Techdave for the advice and apolize for my bad memory!

Heck, if I didn't have bad memory, I'd have no memory at all. But this did make me recall one time back in the late 1970's I agreed to help a friend cut down some trees for firewood. This was on some property that was in the negotiation phase of being sold for expansion of an airport, so he had but a few weeks left to get the trees down and cut up. We went to the property to survey the situation and there were 2 big tall Red Oaks in the stand where he had permission to cut. He said I could have whichever one I wanted to cut and haul after he felled them. We decided to come back the next morning and begin. We met at the gated entrance and then drove our trucks to the site. We parked out of falling range of the first tree and unloaded our equipment. First, he pulled a fairly small Homelite saw out (14" bar maybe) and set it on the ground. At that time I had a Craftsman with an 18" bar. One of the 2 big Oak trees was about 30" to 32" diameter and I remarked that I thought he had told me he was going to bring a "big saw". Then he laughed and pulled an ancient looking McCulloch saw from the bed of his truck. It was like he just kept on pulling that saw out of the bed. Big ole heavy saw with about a 42" bar. He said "Is this big enough?" He said the saw belonged to his older brother. I picked it up and I guess it weighed about 45 pounds. I said "If you'll just crank that thing up and set it beside the tree, I believe the tree will lie down on the ground for you." The other saw he brought was just for "limbing" the felled tree.

Alright, the mother of all chainsaws.
