Giving up on my harbor freight 10 x 12

Its sad, because with the parts already partially built up and the box in sad shape I doubt they will re-sell it, so its going to just become trash. *sigh*

I ordered mine in late January, but it was missing a main roof arch. Not the kind of part I could fake. I asked for a replacement 8 weeks ago, and nothing has arrived. They claim to be waiting for the manufacturer, aka themselves! I am returning it for my money back.

It may have been a cheap greenhouse, but I would have had a 4 month headstart on building my own if I hadn't ordered from them at all. What is 4 months worth?

I would suggest this greenhouse only to gardeners with a gambling mentality :) If all the parts are correct in yours its probably a great deal.

This is truly a sad, sad story. I am feeling your disappointment and I'm sure you were very anxious to get it up. Waiting for something we want can be very hard. Have you called them and given them an ultimatum that it will be returned if you don't get your part in a specified amount of time, i.e. one week? I wish I had a solution for you. Harbor Freight does seem to be awfully hit and miss on including all parts with their kits. I'm guessing you weren't a gamblin' man before this.

You have one other option should you choose to do it.
Send it back and have them send you another one. Someone on this forum did that because when his arrived it was damaged from shipping. He had another one in about a week.
As for waiting on parts I had some parts missing on mine also. I ordered them back in first week of Feb. Still no parts. I made my own and some day when I get the parts I probably will throw them away because the one's that I made is much stronger than what came with it.

Thanks for the info Ellen. And i just got back from HF. The store manager wasn't too happy with my coupon either. He said those are sent to a select group of people and told me the website where it came from. He did honor it and even gave me the online sale price. Final cost 230.00 +tx for the 6x8. Tomorrow i'll be laying out the foundation area. Thanks again....(saved me almost 50%- enough to buy all the extra reinforcing i've been reading about)

Hi Maryanne, there should be a manual in the box, and you'll definately need it. If for some reason the manual is missing, you can download and print the manual from the Harbor Freight website. It's not an easy manual to follow, though, so read on... Many folks at this forum (myself included) believe that it's risky to build the kit as per the manual, without any further reinforcements, if you want to avoid problems caused by wind damage. This forum has many posts with excellent tips regarding these reinforcements, and they were a life saver to me as my husband and I built our HFGH. mattwenfran "caved in the second winter and I have not figured out how to fix it." I used manual to identify what parts I needed to replace and called Harbor Freight and ordered parts they were very helpful. NOT all parts were available so I had to improvise sometimes, bending pieces the best I could such as the roof ridge was not available at the time so I used a Flat Mending Plate Joiner Repair Bracket to reinforce two piece roof ridge The snow load kit above has now weathered many storms just this week two feet of snow and it didn't flinch. I do rake snow off at some point during the day but I no longer panic when I here a storm is on the way overnight.

dbw7, thanks for the correction about the gable ends! Not sure if this is what you're seeing, but all of the panels have traditionally been shipped with a clear plastic film on both sides that needs to be removed before the panels are installed. (The part number labels are stuck onto this plastic film.) UV protection is a clear coating that would not be removable...no way to tell if that is present without laboratory testing of some sort, I believe. We just have to rely on the word of the manufacturer we're purchasing the kit from...which is where some of the controversy comes in regarding Harbor Freight. If the white material is designed to be in place for shading, and the white material is already starting to peel away from the panel, that would be a bit worrisome to me...but maybe you could secure it by simply adding some aluminum tape to the edge of the panel.

Oh that's sad. I hope they'll agree to quickly replace the whole GH for you. It only takes 2 to 3 days to assemble. Less if you don't tape the ends of the panels. The finished product seems to work well and is HUGE - 7 foot high side walls if you bolt the base to a foundation.

Hi Garbonzo,sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with the chinese junk.I put up 8x6 hf last fall it was a total nightmare.I have since visited several home made ones and they are far superior.As i suggested in aother thread if someone copied all the negative feedback and faxed to their home office possibly someone would take notice.

I bought one of these and my husband but it together (this is the second one we have built the first was a higher quaity) so it was bolted to a wood frame and to a concrete pad we had winds of 59 miles this past sunday and I will never find the peices I am hoping to get a better built one maybe a hoop style.
