HELIANTHUS Gone???

hi folks,

last september, i transplanted my monstrous helianthus (lemon queen) to a more appropriate 'back of the border' location. initially it was way too big too move (9'h x 6'w). so i hacked it down to around 2 feet high and then proceeded to transplant it to its new location. but it's now the middle of april, and i'm not seeing any signs of new growth sprouting from the ground. so i'm naturally worried that maybe i transplanted it too early (early september). i'm wondering if i should have waited till late fall, like october or even november. i also noticed that there's new growth of the helianthus sprouting from its original location. it's about 4"inches high and already has a couple of buds forming. so what i did was dig that up and transplanted it to the new location where the original rootball was moved to. hopefully the little guy will be able establish its roots in the new spot and then take off! please let me know if any of you have had success transplanting helianthus. THANKS!
