unknown shrub in se Louisiana

Any ideas on this shrub?

Found while walking a trail in a bottomland hardwood forest in East Baton Rouge parish, Louisiana. Southern Magnolias and Beech were common trees. This shrub appears to be evergreen, with glossy leaves that are slightly crenuate. Size ranged from 1 to 4 ft tall in deep shade. Producing berries which are just now ripening to a red color.

Considering the proximity to the city, it could be a native or invasive species.
