Which Daphne??? Some are deciduous, some evergreen. If it's a deciduous (or semi-evergreen) species then yellow leaves would be normal for November.

I'm not sure which variety it is. I will try and find out. It just seemed odd that some leaves would turn yellow on some of our daphnes but not on others even when they all appear to be the same variety.

Could be as simple as one plant getting more water. Or less water. Or something else a little different.

Most likely you have Burkwood hybrids, probably Carol Mackie. It will drop its leaves in the winter but it does hold on to them for a long time. Just possibly you have Daphne cneorum, which is like an evergreen groundcover but that isn't very common and anything else would be quite rare.

My first and largest daphne is x burkwoodii "Silveredge", which looks a lot like "Carol Mackie". About this time of year all of the inner leaves yellow over and drop.

Based on the above descriptions the daphne appears to be a burkwood variety and therefore I'm assuming it is normal for the inner leaves to yellow and drop. I must have over 100 shrubs, perennials, trees that were planted last year so it's difficult keeping track of what changes they each make thru the seasons. The picture will probably clarify which variety this is.

My 'Carol Mackie' Daphne Burkwoodii do not have yellow margins on the leaves as described in the original post. Their coloring is more of a bluish green leaf with creamy white margins. They also seem to grow in a less rounded, compact form than shown in the photo of the Daphne in question.

Their roots need room to grow deep and extensively, with very good drainage.

They will begin to display a few yellow leaves if their roots begin to get too dry. I thought I read that they are supposed to endure temps of down to the low -20 F. degrees or slightly colder. They display leaf burn if they receive too much direct sun. Too much water that does not drain off properly will cause them to die from root rot.

Could the Daphne in question be a Daphne burkwoodii 'G.K. Argles' or a Daphne burkwoodii 'Somerset Gold edge'

The green in the leaves, which had not yet changed to yellow in the posted photo, appeared too green to be a 'Carol Mackie'. The margins of those green leaves were, also, not as light and distinctive as seen in 'Carol Mackie.'

Additionally the leaves appeared smaller than 'Carol Mackie.' Plus; the branches seemed shorter, more compacted, and close together.

I have a couple of odoras all planted in the ground. All three receive similar light and water conditions but one often looks a bit yellow and sickly.
I recently asked my father's advice as he has an absolutely beautiful big specimen and he has suggested that the yellowing one isnÂt receiving enough iron  so I gave it some iron chelates and it is colouring back up really well - perhaps that would help you too.
