Moving Marechal Niel

I have moved many roses around in my garden as I gain knowledge about their growth habits. I just moved Felicite Parmentier with 6 foot canes (a zillion of them) in fall 2007 and it is now filled with blooms. I tied her canes together without pruning them down. To my utter amazement, while the canes were quite torn up, she still is performing brilliantly. My Marechal is located in a spot that is too small and moving this rose will be a nightmare. It is about 4 X 6 feet and has canes growing every which way with very prickly thorns. The only way I can think to move it will be to cut all the canes back drastically. My question is this: will my MN recover from a severe pruning? I absolutely love this rose and want to give it a very large fence on which to show its stuff.
