Please don't give up! If your night temps are in mid 50 not lower keep them outside, they need a lot of sun! Some people believe that DRs don't need much water, big mistake, they are heavy drinkers in the summer and dryness can cause dormancy. I keep mine in gritty mix feeding with diluted fertilizer (when I get a chance to water between rains), but it may dry to fast in your conditions, so you may need to adjust it to hold more water. I keep them dry with no feeding December-February. Mealybugs are pesky creatures but rubbing alcohol helps, if you are tired of picking, get bayers tree and shrub advanced systemic stuff I used it on my DRs with no problems. Good news is that adeniums do fine with no foliage for prolonged periods of time; one of my DR spent most of last year with no leaves, had to defoliate to get rid of mealies, and it's OK now! There are a lot of helpful souls on this forum and good chance they will help you figure out how to keep your adeniums happy. Good luck, Aggie

I have 2 or 3 biostacks ready to harvest, and I've been putting it off because they are crawling with ants on the top (dry) layer. They're well-behaved ants (not fire ants), so I did harvest some compost last week, but after a couple hours of brushing ants off, I needed to take a break. The dry, brown maggoty things are soldier fly larvae. They're very efficient composters, as good as red worms, and later in the year they leave the bin en masse to pupate (and turn into tiny black flies whose only task is to mate, find the compost bin, and lay some eggs). Their main life stage is larval, and their main purpose is to eat. I love this time of year -- the season of the bottomless compost bin. Every few days it seems I fill up the bin, then a couple days later it's 6 or so inches lower again, so I fill it up again, etc. The composting critters are working overtime!

Lou, I think this will work well for you too(from a fellow nutcase). I originally thought about doing framed boxes to cover each vegatable but I figure why not just do a framed bed. I had been toying around with the idea for a while but when Tom (tomncath) talked about growing veggies in his screened patio a while back, I figured this would work for me. Silvia, thanks for the info. These are new veggies to me so it's good to have some info on them. I am also prepared for the fruit bugs war. I made these bags (screen and shade fabric) for things like peaches, papayas, sugar apples and guavas. I will use them on the young mangoes but as the mangoes ripen, I will switch to a metal mesh bag to protect them form the squrls and birds. I showed those bags on another thread last year. I had 100% success in protecting my mangoes so we'll see how these work with the other fruits. I set bird food for the birds and I have butterfly attracting plants. My benevolence ends there. I don't intend on sharing my veggies and fruits with insects. :)

I don't know without seeing how your greenhouse is set up but it sounds to me that you have an air circulation problem, possibly having too much humidity and overcrowding condition. Does the greenhouse have ventilation? if not, install it with simple fans. Also air out excess vents. Don't set plants too closely to each other (and share the disease). Mildew can be rectified with baking soda treatment or just remove affected area entire. Dispose outside (and not in the compost pile). spider mites are a secondary form of infection. So see if you can address the environmental condition of the greenhouse first and spray to rid the plants of spider mites before giving up.
