My beauty berry is looking great!! This is its second year and it has some real nice berries on it. Can I trim the branches and dry the berries? I would love to put them in some vases for this winter. Thanks

In my experience, they don't dry well.

Experiment. If you can afford the glycerine (I was put off by the cost), you could try to preserve them like people preserve branches of fall leaves. It may not work, but I do not know of anyone who tried it. Recipes are probably on the web. I will look now.

Some birds, yes, other birds not so much. When the Migratory Bluebirds hit my bushes, there were quite a few other berry type sources in my yard and it was just early 'winter'. Later in winter I had a few Mockingbirds pick the last few berries, but vanished quickly from the bluebirds. My resident pair of bluebirds have never really shown much interest in the Beautyberries though, preferring to go after insects.

Are we talking about Callicarpa? These should NOT be pruned. Most pruned Calicarpas lose their natural shape forever, just like Viburnum bodnantense, another tricky shrub. If you have access to it read Cass Turnbull's book about pruning. There is a chapter there devoted to tricky shrubs like Callicarpas. And remember that it will eventually reach 6x6 feet so be sure you have room for shrub of this size without constant need of pruning it.

I tried glicerine once on callicarpa dichotoma. Look so artificial that it was thrown in a garbage almost immediately.
