Replace these shrubs!!!

Coconut526

I just moved into a new home in South Carolina (Not Coastal or Piedmont; Sandy Soil) As in the picture, the shrubs look dreadful and skimpy. I am not a fan of the juniper; however, there is another type of evergreen shrub that is a lighter green and looks like dreadlocks ( I know this sounds silly, but this is the only assimilation I can think of)--does anyone know what these are called?

Also, I do not like the other 4 shrubs that are red and green and want to find something to replace these as well. There is a yew up by the porch on the right, and I want to keep this.

The rectangle area where the 4 red/green shrubs are is 3' x 7'
The 'L-Shape' is 7' x 10'

When I replace the shrubs, I plan to put mulch instead of pine straw. I am not sure if this matters, but the grass is a Bermuda hybrid.

Any information about what shrubs I should use would be greatly appreciated.
