i have mine between 2 Veteran's Honor roses. I seem to get alot of compliments on that combo.

If you don't want red, 'Signature' is a pink/white blend HT with lots of substance (thick petals) that holds up pretty well in the heat. It's also very productive once established. No fragrance. 'Gemini' is another pink/white blend with the same qualities.

Another red would look great, though.

I have one white next to Ingrid Bergman. Another next to Midnight Blue. I like the contrast of the bright white and the dark colors...

After finally tearing out 4 enourmous clarissa hollies from the front bed under my living room windows; i prep'd the bed for roses. The bed is about 11 feet wide and will be nicely framing in the sides with 2' panels of the white plastic lattice to allow my newly purchased/planted Don Juan's (climbing red rose, prolific bloomer with excellant aroma....or so my dilligent research says) between these two climbers is about an 8' span under my windows. I planned to put 4 PJP in there to enable them to somewhat hedge together and provide the striking pure white blossoms to contrast nicely ; but with order with the Don Juans
I think that with a pure white blossom on the PJP whatever planted next to it needs to be another singular pure color. I doubt a coral/orange/peach blend would be appropriate....but thats just me

I simply can't think of any red that isn't going to cook in Hemet, especially not a fragrant one.

Some of the red carpet roses that are such abysmal failures elsewhere in the nation are resplendent here and may be worth a serious look.

You didn't ask but PJP is a perfect foile for any number of other perennials in a wide range of colors. Are you planning anything else?

Hey Michael, I went through Hemet once. In '87. In the dark.
Seemed like a nice enough place then. But yeah inland and dry and hot hot hot.
Peachikeen, I can only imagine how eye-popping PJPII must look with Altissimo as a neighbor. Altissimo by itself could be seen from space. (better hope it doesn't signal the Mother Ship)
Does it cause traffic accidents?

Yes 3. Hemet is quite hot and dry. I lived a few miles "down the road" in Palm Springs and drove through Hemet often when I didn't want to take the freeway... or when I wanted a twisty, curvy, two lane mountain drive...

I was going to suggest the St. Patrick and Marilyn Monroe HT's as they both seem to love the hot weather. Most dark reds would fry I think, so I would tend toward a lighter colored rose. How about Pride of England which is a medium red and seems to bloom it's fool head of for me even in the middle of our summer where it can get to the 100 degree mark for a few days at a time.
I would really think about these three roses.

Well after several trips to local and not so local nurseries, I'm thinking about Ronald Regan, Black Baccara(Wife loves it), Oklahoma, or maybe forgetting the whole Red/White/Red thing and getting Paradise(I read somewhere that it does pretty good in the heat). Maybe I'll just get another Black Magic, it's by far my favorite red, and looks awesome next to PJP II, just wish it had a little scent.

I have another area that we are going to add around 5-6 roses to when my kids swingset finally bites the dust in another year or two. That area will get morning sun but will be shaded by our house in the afternoon. I'm thing of putting a seating area and nothing but Very Fragrant roses there.
