Prepping for Knock-Outs

I would love to have Knock-Out roses, but I have several questions. I probably will not get them until next year as I don't have a spot for them yet. What I thought I'd do first is work on building a 'garden for them first. Therefore, my questions:

1) How do you think they would actually do in my area? I have very hot summers with many humid days.

2) How well do they actually do as far as repeat blooms and what care can I give to help that along?

3) When I start the beds, what are some things I can do to improve the soil? Leaves, compost, manure, etc? There are two areas I want to plant them, but it is very hard clay.

4) What other roses can I grow that would do well here? I would like those that are good repeaters.

Any help, suggestions and other tips are all welcome. I am sure I haven't thought of all the questions yet that I may have, so all info you have would be greately appreciated.
