tempered glass cold fram top shattered- what happened?
Comments (1)Any chance you nicked the edge? Tempered glass is pretty tough stuff *except* for the edges. Twice I have found out the hard way - once with the cold frame and later in the greenhouse - than any minute damage to the edge results in a million+ little pieces. Maybe there was latent damage and you just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time, so to speak. Cheers...See Moregreenhouses and tempered glass
Comments (1)I would have to agree with you husband. That glass is not made to withstand elements like hail. Also it will not be very efficent keeping temps stable. You really need double pane glass. I know, it is expensive but so is replacing the glass when it breaks... Mike...See Morecompanies that can make 8' x 8' fixed tempered glass?
Comments (12)Hi, I had 8'x9' single-glazed tempered glass windows made for my house. The glass was made by Hartung Glass. http://www.hartungglass.com/ The aluminum window frames were made by Bonelli Windows http://www.bonelli.com/ Bonelli has a great and friendly sales team but their post-sales support and service is a bit gruff. Needless to say, this is big glass! It all had to be site glazed! PS - I used Fleetwood sliders too --- and the largest Fleetwood slider I have is 7.5' x 8.5' per pane. That's 63.75 sq ft, and that's insulated glass. Are you sure they can't do 64 sq ft? I wasn't even close to maxxing out their size for the Norwood 3000 series... Comments (11)These rules have been in the IRC and its predecessor (the CABO code) since the mid 80's. Until the 2009 IRC there was no exception for glass in a wall perpendicular to the wall of the door if it was within the 24" arc (a semicircle was drawn horizontally from the edge of the door). The 2009 IRC required safety glass if the glass was in a wall perpendicular to the closed door if within 24" of the hinge side of a swinging door. The Ohio code appears to have butchered that requirement beyond recognition. To satisfy the inspector that the old 24" arc rule is not in effect, show him THIS....See More- 15 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
