We've talked some on storing scion longer-term than usual, and a week or so ago it came up. Apparently Applenut has suggested immersing in water and freezing. You might use a a quart milk carton, for example. I'd probably take ice water with me while clipping my scions and take them directly off of the tree into the water so that they didn't have any chance to warm in the house during handling, but I get obsessive sometimes! To tell the truth I was a little tempted to go out today and clip a few myself since we're having nice weather at the moment, but I held off. I'd say "Do it". You can make it work. Good luck.

I only know about tall bearded iris, so if that's what you have, I've read that they could germinate up to 18 years later. I assume the rate of germination would be better if you planted them sooner than that, but I just germinated some that are at least 10 yrs old! Have fun!

rose cuttings can last a long time. I'd wrap them up in a damp paper towel and stick them in the fridge until you have the time to work with them.

WEEK 3: Most of the unopened buds looked dry and appeared to be aborting so I went ahead and cut them off along with a few crispy leaves and blooms. Most of the other foliage looks good and I have a new bud that looks healthy. I think the plant lacked water when I first brought it home and while the leaves appeared to rejeuvenate the buds did not. I am concerned that my windowsill may be too sunny for the blossoms. It is a SE facing window. And it is on a large shared driveway so lots of reflected light and heat from the pavement and neighboring houses. I could move it to a different windowsill. Not sure if I should. The leaves look good. Went ahead and repotted. I have a huge bag of miracle grow moisture control potting soil so I decided to just go ahead and use that along with vermiculite mixed in. I hope it wasn't a mistake to use the MGMC soil. I just couldn't buy another bag of soil when I have that huge Costco bag in my garage. Post trim and repotting. New leaves look healthy.
