Zone question for climbing roses
Comments (38)Jim- Good to know about Golden Showers. I decided to get one William Lobb to go with my two Fantin Latour roses. I suspect that it might not grow as tall as they say on the website, in my colder climate. In this location it's okay it it's just a big beautiful shrub. Thank you all for your input. I was leaning towards New Dawn for the kitchen garden arbor, but was afraid it might be too exuberant. Finally decided to zone push a little and ordered two Lavender Lassie roses that should arrive early next June. They'll be own root and the arbor will be in one of the most protected locations we have, so I'll keep my fingers crossed :)...See MoreParade Climbing rose questions
Comments (17)My Parade is in its third year. I love the color and abundance of blooms. It is at the end of its first flush now, but I remember from last year that it will produce smaller flushes for the rest of the summer. For me, Parade has been healthier than Lavender Lassie was. Parade also produces more flowers after the first flush than Lavender Lassie. I have Parade planted by a low stone wall with Awakening and Dublin Bay. Here is a link to a picture. (hope the link works!) Sorry about the picture quality - My camera seems to only want to do closeup shots right now. Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreCompassion Rose / Climber Question
Comments (1)Sorry to say that any normal-ish climbing rose in unsuited to this situation. Once it gets going, it will make shoots 8-10' long that are too stiff to wrap on a lamppost. Maybe you have a stretch of fence 15' wide where you can grow Compassion, a very nice rose....See More'Short Climbing Rose' Question
Comments (21)I started this thread 8 years ago - and I'm so enjoying reading this new discussion that is developing and has brought the original post back to life. My update: I have been fighting an ever-losing battle for my roses. My "pet deer" have continually destroyed everything, every year. Every year I think of and try some new weapon - everything but wrapping a 6 foot fence around the rose garden areas in my yard. This year - I'm giving in to trying to find an attractive, see through, tall, fence design that will keep deer out and roses growing. I'm geting too old and broke to replant a new garden of plants every year. Waaaah.... . Carry on and keep up the conversation!...See Morejess2132000
