Hedge Maintenance

Hi all,

New to the board, and a somewhat new gardener. I bought a house 2 years ago with an existing hedge. The hedges were fairly new, and I didn't pay much attention to them until this year, when I noticed they were very thin in the middle.

I've been trimming them over the past couple months (tops and sides), and just this weekend I went ahead and trimmed a good 6-8 inches off the top (which resulted in all the hedges left bare, with virtually no green on them!).

I then watered and fertilized them with Dried Blood (organic fertilizer).

My question is: is there any way to revive the hedges at this point? I'm planning on pulling some of them up, as there are so many and they are high maintenance plants, but I would like to keep 3 of the 6 rows for boundary definition (and privacy, if the leaves can come back in!!).

Any suggestions would be helpful!
