My seedlings are blooming

I had a few blooms on my seedlings. Please take a look at my babies.

This was the first seedling to bloom:

This one looked to me like a daffodil. It has beautiful strong fragrance. This seedling has three flower buds on one stem.

This baby is simple but very cute, no fragrance.

This one is gorgeous, with strong sweet fragrance

I also have couple of 'green' ones.

This looks weird

And this seedling also has three buds to the stem, the flower just started to open, probably will be semi-double

I have lots of unopened flower buds on other seedlings. Watching them is so much fun!!!

They are delightful - I even like the green one! How old are they, and do you know who their parents are?

Those are very interesting; growing roses from seeds would be such a fun thing to do! The weird one looks like a chrysanthemum to me and I really love the one that looks like a daffodil. Thanks for sharing and I hope your babies continue to do well.

It's very pretty with a nice bright face and definitely looks like Minerva! I'm sure that the next time it blooms it will give you the customary 4 flowers. We all start out with simple crosses, I did the same when I only had a few bulbs. I've had 6 of my Fairy Tale x Lemon Stars bloom and they are all basically the same, very pale and quite uninteresting. Only 1 is a keeper so far and that's a stretch. Did you return from your trip in time to get photos of the other two Komoriya bulbs that you had buds on? Donna

Thanks Kylie :) I just had the 10 yr old outside with me, and she was evaluating the seedlings, and Cypress Gardens. She says she prefers the white with yellow veining seedling over CG. She says it smells way better, looks better, and the corolla is super fuzzy..we like that!! She looked at the IxEA, and said 'thats weird!' LOL! She said it reminds her of a star, not a typical star, but a star like a ball..whatever that means, lol. It was great to see her out there so interested in the seedlings, and the way she was talking while comparing CG & the Not'E'x? seedling...it was awesome, the way she was describing things...I think I have a future partner in brugs here!!! Brenda, thank you! :) It sure is exciting!!! I like them thar twirlin twangers too! lol! I have 4 blooms on that one right now, one more ready to open, and lots more buds! On the IxEA I have 6 open, and lots more buds..seems like it is a little more peachy now..hmmm..but it still has a bit of that light mauve/lilac color to it, more noticeable in the folds. Thanks Hanzrobo and Ron for feedback, It was well worth the time and energy to get to this point and see a real difference in plants. I remember reading that the offspring may have very subtle to no change from the parent plants so this is a real treat. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the red cactus or mom is a very old plant. I will have to look up info on "sports" now. Thanks again, it is hard to find info on this stage of bringing up the babies.

I'm gathering this seedling is a TET. I do have Yasmin!! Though I'm not sure if they will be blooming at the same times. Guess I have some pollen to save. Thanks so much, that is a great suggestion.

Rosecats, unfortunately, I can not say for sure who their parents are. I have all the seeds mixed up (will try to be more organized next year).
I sawed them on January 14th this year, so they are very young.
I like the one like daffodil, too. And the fragrance is a nice bonus.

I love your babies, and I bet you're having lots of fun. But how could you stand to discard your offspring that turn out not to be good plants?

Marina,

Your seedlings are awesome. Do you grow these under artificial lights? Yours are so much further ahead than mine, it seems. I've got mine in my little greenhouse with no supplemental light, and I'm wondering if that might be delaying things somewhat.

I do have two seedlings with flower buds: Mme. Gregoire Staechelin has blue/green leaves and a bud that will open any day now.

Also, I have a seedling of Leontine Gervais that has a bud, but that will be awhile before it opens.

This is so exciting!

Melissa, you are right. I am afraid to even think about tossing 'bad' seedlings. But I will have to. There is no way I can add 60 more roses to my garden. Also, I would like to continue growing roses from seeds in the future.
I was thinking about plant swap party that we will have in May (here in Amelia, VA). Hopefully there some of them would find good homes. Otherwise, I don't know...

Robert, yes I grow mine under fluorescent lights (regular shop lights, nothing fancy). I wish I could have a greenhouse, too!!!
This is my setting (this is in our covered 'breezeway' - it stays rather cool there. The picture was taken a while ago)

Beautiful babies, Marina! I wish I could do that, but so far I have no talent. Everything I try dies. Yours are wonderful. And how amazing that you even got fragrance!

How exciting! It makes me want to stop dead-heading altogether.

I don't know anything about roses from seed, but it seems to me that the first seedling with 3 buds/stem sounds like a potential keeper. However, I don't know if I would be able to discard any roses that I had grown from seed - I might be too attached.

Question: How long did it take them to bloom from seed?

Avalon, I sowed my seeds on January 14th this year. Exactly one month later I noticed the first buds on two seedlings. The first bloom opened around March 1st.
Right now I have about 20 seedlings with flower buds (out of 60 seedlings total).
Discarding is a tough thing for me, too. In the future I just will not sow so many.
