Hi - I've been using something called Vigoro Tall Fescue with RTF (a self-repairing feature). Click here to see info about it: http://www.vigoro.com/ProductCategories/GrassSeed/TallFescue/ I'm not sure whether or not this type of grass is suited for FL use -- someone else may want to comment on this. I planted my first section last fall, and it's fantastic - although you can faintly see the outline of the pavers, the grass came in great. This spring I finished planting the rest of the paved area, and the grass is already about 2 to 3 inches tall. I give it lots and lots of water. What I do when I plant grass is I thoroughly mix about 80 pounds of top soil, 40 pounds of humus manure (not too strong a manure mix), one 12 oz cup of seed, and about 10 oz of "starter fertilizer". After I spread out this mixture, I cover with something called Emerge. (here's the link to Emerge: http://www.shopping.com/xPC-Mgc_Emerge_for_lawns) This is a miracle process -- my grass always looks wonderful. I used about 100 40 pound bags of top soil and humus/manure so far this year, and I'm quite pleased with the result. Of course, my back is sore, but what the hey? Good luck -- and you probably need to use the "right" grass for central FL.

Bought a foreclosure, thought I'd match the width of the sidewalk with four 12" wide paver, just the plain concrete type in the strip by the road to sidewalk that right now is all dirt. The pavers match and are cheap but I've only laid out a few rows. I'm trying to do a crash course in landscaping as I know nothing. Anyways would it be easier and cheaper to just have a concrete company come and make a pad type of deal? It's going to be so many more pavers then I thought, like $80 worth. Someone said it might be $150 for someone to lay the concrete to match the sidewalk up to the house. Anyways what are people doing with these strips, I drive around town and everyone is different. I think I'm going to plant grass in the strip as it's just dirt now. Or maybe an island deal too with flowers/plants in one spot. Just wondering if I should continue with the ugly pavers, well they don't look that bad, just plain. Or what another option might be.

If you have a regular circular saw, you can buy a quality dry diamond blade for anywhere from $15-$40. I've cut dozens of pavers/edgers of all sizes with the DeWalt blade I bought several years ago. They're relatively inexpensive and easy to use if you're comfortable using a circular saw. I bought mine at Lowe's 3 years ago for $15 and it still cuts fine. You don't need water to cool it but it's recommended you use a dust mask, eye protection and ear plugs, work slowly, and make multiple passes on anything over 2 inches thick. You can cut straight through a 1.5" paver with one. I've even cut 3.5" retaining wall blocks with mine using multiple passes from both sides. I do use multiple passes regardless of thickness because the saw doesn't work as hard and it's easier than making one deep cut. I use mine on a 25 year old Skil Saw and have never had a problem except when I've been off with my measurements. Oh, and one time when I forgot to set the paver I was cutting on top of another to avoid cutting a nice little groove in our driveway. That was a slap-your-forehead, "Ohhhhhhhhh, *bleep*" moment.
