I've always grown my small Echinopsis pups in small pots, but I've changed that last fall. The small pots always dried out so fast in the high summer temperatures and extremely dry air around here and I don't have time to water every other day. At the worst they had a high mortality rate and at best they lived, but never grew. Now I've decided to grow them in community pots and so far they have been very happy. The true test will come this summer when I'll be expecting a lot more growth. But you know your environment better than I do so small pots may work for you. Plus I am basically growing plants with the same needs and that makes a difference, too. Anyway--good luck with your babies. I've never had success growing from seed yet, but I keep hoping. :-)

Thanks for the quick response, tj. The soil I used is the straight off the shelf Miracle Grow cactus soil. I have bought a couple of other pots and I will be using a different soil for those just to experiment. One will be 25% potting soil, 25% small (tiny) pebbles and 50% crushed pebbles. This is the basic recipe that I found on this page --> http://www.mammillarias.org/Cacti_From_Seed/Soil_Recipe.htm. I am substituting soil with loam because honestly I dont know what it is exactly or where to find it. I read a few Google links but they werent much help. The second pot will contain 1/3 soil (the cactus mix I currently have), 1/3 perlite and 1/3 sand. The cactus mix that I bought off the shelf contains very little perlite and holds on to moisture very well which, from what I have read, is bad. I have regular playground sand but tomorrow I intend to wash it until it is clean and then I will bake everything to sterilize. This recipe was also taken from another site. Honestly the seedlings I have right now dont look so hot. They got burned because I had them in direct sunlight which, at the time, I didnt know what bad. Some are also laying on the ground and their "stalk" looks like a piece of thread. This could very well be the root for all I know. I am a clueless beginner at this point. :) To get the soil up to 80 degrees fer germination I used an incandescent light bulb, but unfortunately I pointed it right at the tray and left it on for two or three days with the seedlings suffering apparently. I will still use that method to heat the soil this time but this time I will put the light under the seed tray to gently heat the soil from the bottom up. Also if you are interested, here is the link to the lighting setup that I will be using. It is from Youtube and what I will be using will be identical except I will add other reflectors if need be.
