Crushed stone path -- do you rinse the stone first?

We're building a path with 'Apache Brown' crushed stone on top of quality permeable landscape fabric on top of clay. Our clay is somewhat sandy and does drain.

We just finished laying the first scoop, but first we rinsed it in the truck bed to wash off the sediment so it wouldn't form a layer between the stones and fabric. But my gosh that took a LOT of time, and we still need at least 2 more scoops to finish the path today.

I haven't read about anyone rinsing the stones first. I don't see how the sediment layer would be any different than a layer of sand under flagstone.

Is this a necessary step? Or a waste of our time and energy?

Hoping someone can answer within the next hour before our lunch break is over. :-)
