Does anyone know what happens to steneotarsonemus at 5C or 0C?
Comments (2)I considered trying the hot air method with the oven (I got an oven thermometer) but was scared... Then I realized I could leave the bulbs on a heater which goes up to 50C on the surface and I did leave them there turning every few hours. The bulbs got a little scar on one side but this is all. (I visited an organic gardenshop and "rescued" 3 rotten bulbs which were being sold at 0,5 euro each; now I have 4 bulbs and I wonder wether it was the right thing to do since I have no experience at saving a bulb from rot) Poor them have flower scapes. They are all hard but rather small (1-1,5 inch diameters) The heat treatment didn't seem to bother them much at all. Should I cut the flower scapes or should I let them bloom and go to seed to save them through seed...? Foliar feeding would be allright (kelp based feed)? Or should I refrain from any feeding? I dusted them with rooting hormone and put each on top of hydroton balls with 0,5 inch between the base of the bulb and the water which is 2 inches deep. Pots - transparent water bottles. I made the mistake of covering the hydroton and the top of the bulbs with clear plastic film because the top hydroton layer was dry....See MoreAnyone doing interiorscaping or know someone who does?
Comments (26)Our company is holding it's own. We deal with the Washington metro area; it is a little more recession proof than the reat of the country. Pay starts around $11-$12 depending on qualifications it goes up. However they are right when they talk about the walking, driving, dealing with clients and just aggrevating plants. It's all part of being a tech; you have to enjoy it or you shouldn't bother. Our company is small; they are always open to new ideas and techniques. Makes you feel more professional not just some goof with a watering can and some shears. We use the machines, moisture meters and new subirrigation when possible. I think the smaller companies are better; they are more in touch with thier people, clients and what is going on in the industry....See MoreAnyone else with low body temperature?
Comments (40)Firstly let me say - those of us with a low body temperature who have always had this - it is nothing to worry about ath0ugh it does have its problems. Anyone who has only recently become 'cold' there may be another reason for it so do get it checked out. My daughter is in her final year of a nursing degree and was talking to one of the docs about this. It is unusual but not unheard of - I think most people who are colder than usual are not aware of it, nurses very rarely put down if you have a low temperature as they fear it would make them appear sloppy by not checking properly. The real difference for most people is our 'immunity' to bugs - bugs are very temperature reliant and they do not like our cold bodies. However when we come across a bug that is less susceptible to temp changes we effectively go down 'like a ton of bricks' and take longer to recover. We don't feel the cold quite as much but we feel the effects - so even if we don't feel cold we can get problems like Reynards where the fingers and toes go white and numb. Unpleasant but as long as you are aware of it and don't get too cold for too long it can be controlled. I also find heat to be a problem - I am not really sure why but I will try to find out more....See MoreDoes anyone know why David Austin hates teas?
Comments (39)Oh, well, I ran out of garden space at my house.... Not really. My Italian-born-and-reared husband reached retirement age and we wanted to live outside the U.S. for a couple of years, which in our financial situation meant working. DH's brother-in-law offered him a job--typical Italian nepotism--so off we went. In a first wave of enthusiasm for Italy we bought an old farm, realized at the end of the two years that we had to choose between Italy or the U.S. as our permanent residence, and chose to stay in Italy. We came here in 2000. Our daughter, who was a year old when we came, has grown up here, but speaking English at home and enjoying long vacations in the U.S. with her American relatives, so that she has had the benefit of a bicultural upbringing....See Morealbert_135 39.17°N 119.76°W 4695ft.
