Bullfrogs

WOW WEE, It's Amazing how people can't seem to anwer a simlpe question.This tadpole will be an American Bullfrog and native to this area. (NOT ILLEGAL) Maybe if you took the time to ask instead of acting your shoe size, you would have known this. I found my answer from people that ACTUALLY know what they are talking about, so I have know need for this sight any longer, It's unfortunate that there are small minded people out there like you!! How was that for your slap in the face!!!

Fletching - since you found the need to post this twice - I'll post mine to make sure you see my response

Fletching, based on your response I'm assuming you're a child (the retort "hows that for your slap in the face!" and horrid misspellings, well, I think that speaks for itself). As for answering your simple question - yes bullfrogs are native to your area, but you specifically stated that you BOUGHT the animal from a pet store. This fact ALONE supports my original statement - it is ILLEGAL to release pets into the wild. If you bought it, its a pet and its ILLEGAL to release it into your pond. I have a good number of friends and contacts in MI and your actions would fall under that category.

Bullfrogs have a huge range throughout the United States and Canada, and you have no idea where that animal you bought in the pet store came from - do you REALLY think a bullfrog from Florida will do well in Michigan (or vice versa)?

Also, by it being in the pet store, you have no idea what other animals it was exposed to or what pathogens it might be carrying that it could pass on to native populations of bullfrogs (dendrobatidus chytridmiosis or rana virus to name just a couple).

Do you homework, have an open mind to listening to what others say even if it doesn't fit into your plans, and think about your actions before you take them.

@ Cazz1, I was wondering why a three year old thread was resurrected, lol. Mr Bullfrog may well be your Prince;) But you should know he absolutely will eat your fish and even small birds. Yes, nature is grand and I've loved and hand-fed many a bullfrog in my day. Once upon a time there was one who would follow my dad & I around the yard while we worked. He was hilarious and ate crickets out of our hands (aptly named Prince for anyone who's interested). That said, in the years since I've had a garden pond, I relocate them if they take up residence. My fishies are my pets and they do not coexist well, sadly. I don't doubt your new friend has won your heart. But if you allow him to stay, prepare yourself to deal with the natural food chain. Your handsome prince is a predator in that environment. blessings,

Pretty little fellow. He might try, but may be unsuccessful, as NJ gets awful cold in winter. If I wanted to keep him, I might grab him one day, place him in an aquarium, feed him crickets from the pet shop, and place him back in the pond when it warms up in Spring. By next summer, there might be enough muck and dead plant matter on the bottom to support a Bullfrog (insulation and support), and more than likely, since he showed up, I imagine many more of his little friends will too in the future.

Mantis - I have lots of short scapes this year. I'm just happy Bullfrog Kisses came through the winter and multiplied well. A lot of my other southern plants did not multiply at all. I complained about low bud count (7-9 per scape) only because in past years I've seen it have around 20 with plenty of lateral branching. I think the multiple dry weeks in May probably accounts for the low bud count this year.
