Hi Sparky7, I bought dwarf papyrus for my pond in June and it is growing very well. The older tufts are turning brown but (according to the article I'll list below) that is to be expected this time of year. I followed the advice from the tech at Wedells and placed it on a plant ledge so that the water level in just at the top of the container. The tufts are yellow-green and turn a rich bronze in late summer. Dwarf Papyrus make excellent deck and patio accents when planted in tubs or kettles and set in full sun to partial shade. They have very high moisture needs, so be sure to keep the appropriate amount of water in the pot. Dwarf Papyrus prefers a water depth of 1 to 4 inches over their crowns. They can be invasive if planted directly at the pond edge; they are controllable by placing them in 2-gallon containers before placing them in the water. Spreads 12". When a stem bends over and touches the water, it will create new plantlets. If you want to speed up this process, cut off flower heads and float them upside down in water. Zones 9-11. If I am not mistaken you are in Colorado so I have the folowing questions.. what would you be growing in your 'grand' coldframes? How late or early into the winter? lettuce/spinach are low growers...why so high?

Doris has a great question. It might be possible to get some seeds with his name or variants of his name as well. Can't go wrong with some cosmos, especially some yellow and orange ones, closer to the taste of a boy. Balsam impatiens would be fun for her to collect seeds from and also reseed marigolds, a bold, large flowering but short like marigold bolero portulacca are easy seeds to germinate and come in a mix of colors zinnia zowie flame germinates easily and is a good size flower and bold give me some time to come up with some others and if you give us a first name, we can see what seeds would match the name as well. It's that whack a mole thing goin' on. (grin) Daniella - now the preform with the little stuff in it (sans the fish) sounds like a good idea. I swear, I'm goin' back for those rubber lillies. I thought they were hysterical. I wanted to throw them in some "perpetual" puddles around here, just to see if anyone said anything. (grin) That and the face on my tree sticking its tongue out, pretty funny. (grin) Too funny about the Xmas fern! Ha - yep, next time, just leave it and see if it goes. The asparagus ferns are used everywhere like evergreens in CA - I fell in love with them because they're just so fluffy looking. And they DO take full sun, no matter what anyone tells you. They need alot of water if they're in full sun. They stay soft and fluffy when they're happy and get lots of water. When it gets tight on water, they get spiny (self defense because they have bulbous wet roots that animals will chase in tight water times.) But if they're happy, they are fluffy and will actually climb as well as have long trailers. They take a lot of abuse, too. I'm going to get a bunch of them and put them in pots on my back deck. Full sun, fluffy green. Eh - they'll be pretty without a lot of fuss. I'm gonna buy those monster FAKE bostons for in front. (grin) Was too hard last year keeping them watered and happy. So get a couple monster fake ones - put them in some iron stands - viola! (grin)
