I have Moonshine, Fireland, Paprika, Cerise Queen, & Appleblossom. Love them all. Moonshine and Fireland are strictly clumpers & quite vigorous for me. Nice healthy big clumps. The other 3 (all listed in my records as millefolium) spread a bit but very slowly in my garden. Paprika has been in the ground since 2004 and has put out one small clump about 6 inches from the mother plant. Appleblossom keeps dying out on me (too wet a location) and being replaced every 3rd year or so because I love her chalky pink color in that particular bed. Cerise Queen is the latest bloomer (mid/late-July or so) of any of them and trickles around some daylilies but only in the gentlest manner. Wish she was bigger and tougher. I love the combination of the flat/rounded heads of yarrow & the cerise color with peach/melon dls. All my yarrows are in clay soil made as loose and airy as I can make it and except for Appleblossom are planted high & dry. I'm sure that in looser, sandy soil, in a longer, warmer season they would all grow better. In my garden they can live and bloom, but spread is only something I wish for.

I am growing 'Pomegranate' right now. So far, I love it. I bought one large pot at a local garden center and had enough to split into three plants. It is a blue-red that doesn't fade much and ends up a very deep magenta. I deadheaded it and already have a 2nd bloom underway. The foliage is green instead of silver -- easier to survive the humidity here. Companions around it in my garden include: rose campion salvia 'May Night' gaillardia 'Yellow Queen' salvia greggii 'Dark Dancer' Here is a link that might be useful: pomegranate with my rose campion

I did lots of work in that general area this spring. You can see just on the other side of the daiseys are some snapdragons I stuck in there for some extra color. Next year I will find something else to plant in back of those 3 yarrows. Just don't feel like doing any more this year. That is unless I just happen upon the perfect plants that I can't leave be. I have been good as I have not been to any nurseries in weeks. Otherwise I would probably still have more things I had bought that need planting.

Went Sat morning. Left home at sunrise and arrived well before scheduled opening time. They were already open! and had a few shoppers. Went to get a dozen Formosa Azaleas only and came home with about 50 plants. Probably would have bought more, but by 9:30 the place was so crowded, I couldn't get my already overflowing cart through the aisles. Thought I spotted another GWer there, a couple with 2 large carts, both overflowing. But after I left, they passed me on the highway, traveling about 10MPH over the speed limit and the wind was whipping the blooms off of those large $9 Azaleas loaded upright in the bed of their pickup. I decided they weren't GWers after all, otherwise, they would have known how to load plants to transport them safely, with minimal damage! Next time I'll go very early on Sunday morning, my usual day.
