Even if UI does not do soil testing anymore they can refer you to labs that will. 2. Time is needed to undo the dog poop. While it is not a good idea to use the manure from domesticated animals because of the very real possibility of disease pathogens, time will also help lessen your potential exposure. 3. More than likely the "fire starters" used in the fire pit volatized as the fires burned. Unless they were dumped in and allowed to sit around for some time before the fire was lit they would not have accumulated in the soil or the bricks. 4. You could replace the soil where the unknown poisons were poured or work at building up that soil with organic matter that will help support a soil biology that will aid in the clean up. "Cover" crops have also been used to accumulate some unwanted substances from the soil, but that also means cutting them down and throwing them away. Your best course of action for any food crops you want to grow there is either containers or raised beds for a few years until the potential harmful materials are removed from the soil there. That would be less labor then removing the soil that is there and replacing it with some other soil. Here is a link that might be useful: UI CES...See Moregardens in old movies
Comments (15)Hi Ginny: The Hanalei Bay Plantation has been absorbed into a planned community known as Princeville. The mid-range Hanalei Bay Resort and the 5-star Princeville Hotel are there now. There are smaller condos for rent scattered throughout the area. The Princeville Hotel now occupies the spot where they filmed the scenes I described above. The beach itself is still relatively the same and the town Of Hanalei, with the exception of the odd sushi bar or two, seems stuck in a time warp. Last time I was there was Summer 2001. I don't have access to the pics now, but when I do, I'll post some in this thread. spectre...See MoreIt's complicated - LOVED the kitchen
Comments (10)I would steal elements of that kitchen-I loved it when I first saw the photos a couple of months ago. It gets a "A" from me for style and a "C-" maybe a D for usability and clean-ability. I love the appearance of the shelves holding the dishes and the electric soldiers lined up underneath, but because the dishes are so far back anything beyond the first shelf would be ladder time. I like the narrower alcove made from pantry shelving. I would love the big honking stove - even tho it total violates clearance guidelines. I would move the pots to another location and get rid of 3/4 of the stuff on the counters. I like the palette of neutrals and its implementation with shades in the same scope in both hard and soft textures. I like the way they used black as a color. It makes the food be the "pop" of the kitchen - you see the oranges, the herbs, the bread, etc. I enjoyed the mixed materials and styles of the various bits....See More'It's Complicated' anyone see it?
Comments (16)I can't imagine living in a house with open shelving in the kitchen. I cook in my kitchen, and I also clean it. I know what would collect on those shelves, and I would never serve food on dishes that had been sitting on an open shelf for a week - and probably longer - collecting dust and cooking particulate. As for not having upper cupboards at all, why, I have a real kitchen and I need real options for storage. I am much more concerned with functionality than fakery. Working kitchens are not necessarily good movie props, and movie props are not necessarily good kitchens. Just like the fake garden in the movie that won't feed anyone in real life, this decor concept makes for beautiful movies, but has no practical value in a real home....See MoreMarie Tulin
