Cherylco- Ha! Funny you should mention my trellis... My wire just arrived, and I was just going to order more plumbing part for another 3 trellises. (The trellis you see in the background of that picture is my earlier attempt at a wooden one) Keep in mind, some people consider this overkill. I havenÂt added it up, but it might be $80 or so per trellis set once you include the parts, wire, paint, concrete, and hardware. But, I like the fact that theyÂre very sturdy, removable, tensionable, and have a minimalist appearance. My previous wooden trellises had sagged inwards, rotted, or broke. I could probably use solid 4x4Âs, but those wouldnÂt have been as minimalist, and probably wouldnÂt be as easily removable. All the plumbing here is ¾ Inch galvanized. YouÂll probably need to specially order the "Crosses". The trellises are actually removable as well. There is a union just below the dirtline. This allows me to remove the trellis in winter, and then the plow dumps all its snow on it. Once the spring comes, I just screw them back in. Hi, Brenda. Well, this project is definitely a 'work in progress' so I took some new photos that (hopefully) will show this better. The area that will be the courtyard includes the concrete area - that I did three years ago when we moved in and now I can't wait to get rid of - the dug up area in front of the trellis and the grassed area in between to form a rectangle. That will become a wood deck (also painted brown) that will be flush with the ground and is where the bench, planter & 'funky birds' will sit. The other two photos are views from the street. The original bed was one rose bush. You might say it has been expanded a bit! Nothing I hate more than trying to get a lawnmower around little shrubs & trees here and there, so it all became one large bed in this area. There are three shrubs in front of the trellis - 'Clavey's Dwarf' Honeysuckle, 'Red Prince' Wiegela and a spirea that was in the back yard but had never bloomed there. In between are two clematis' - Alpina 'Willy'. I intend to plant some annual vines, either nasturtium or scarlet runner bean, to fill in the trellis this year and until the clematis establishes. The rest of the bed is a mix of my favourite flowers (daffodils, tulips, peonies, lilies)and other plants (mock orange, lamb's ear...). It's a bit hard to see the trellis from this side, but that was intentional as we painted it brown to co-ordinate with the house colour. Oh, my, this is long...lol! Anyway, it's still raining here - supposed to continue for the next few days, so the work is on hold for a bit...guess I'll just have to spend those rainy days checking out some of the local nurseries. I am new here but found this thread most interesting. I am a huge fan of George Harrison and am currently designing a tribute garden to him. By referencing video footage of George at Friar Park from variuos EPK's that have been issued I have been able to establish some of the ornamentaition used in the grounds. Also from a web chat he gave on 15th February 2001 I have some of George's own recommendations of plants for gardens his suggestions were Miscanthus Zebrinas and Malepartus and a ginger by the name of Kahili. Whilst searching for plants to add to my garden I have made a list of over 200 varieties of differnet plants that could be seen to represent George and his work some of the links are a tad tenuous but some that might be helpful to you are A Rhoddodendhon - George's Delight A minature Lilly - Sweet Lord Various plants with the variety name of Midnight Blue Whilst I would dearly love a plant to be named after George in the abscence of this I have looked for plants that have the same name as a song lyric or can be seen to represent important people in his life such as the Dark Lady Rose to represent Olivia, The Little Leo Sunflower to represent his son, George's son is s Leo and he's not very tall, The Rhoddodenrhon Patty B etc etc. As part of the hard landscaping a mosaic of the Dark Horse record lable logo will be included. I hope this gives you some ideas for plants and themes to represent George in you Beatles themed gardens Looking forward to corresponding with you all on this forum. I will be setting up a website once I start work on the gardens and will pass the link onto you all when it is ready.

Here's a couple pics of two of my Mango trees that were planted in ground this early spring. They're both doing quite well despite the extreme temps and no extra shading. Usually new young tropical fruit trees need sun protection on their first few summers here to get acclimated but these ones don't seem like they need it. They're throwing out new growth all over the place with only minor sun burn on the older leaves. Mango 'Lemon Zest' Mango 'Coconut cream' I threw several good Manila mango seeds in pots and a few are starting to sprout now. I'm going to dig a few deep holes in the ground and transfer these in fall to get their taproots to start growing deep. They'll probably going to grow much better than the grafted ones without taproots. Elephant ear fig is doing very well too. No sign of sun burn on these big leaves. I'll plant out a few more of these in the front yard in the fall. My Longan tree is doing well too in the heat. Full sun all day and flushing new growth. My Shell Gingers are finally starting to take off. These guys really like the heat. I've had them in ground for more than 7 months now, started them from rhizomes. Very slow growing, I was expecting them to grow as fast as my Canna lilies. Afternoon shade is recommended for these guys. The one's I have in full sun all day aren't as good looking as these ones that get afternoon shade. Lots of water and rich organic soil is a must. I can't wait until they get to 7+ft tall and flowering. I can't wait for the monsoon rains to roll in! I'm tired of watering every day! LOL
