I thought our 2300 sq ft. house was just perfect for the 3 of us... - then we decided I traveled too much for work and opened up my own business - in the house - then things grew and I added an employee - in the house - Then hubby took early out from the University and expanded his tax & consulting practice - in the house - then his practice grew and he added a part ime employee - in the house - then things really got successful and some parts of the year he can have as many as 3 employees - in the house!!! Net effect is that our 4 bedroom house some days feels like a 1 bedroom office - we no longer have a home. We are building on 20 acres in the country - house with a good sized office wing. I've redesigned about a dozen times and can't seem to get it down below 5000 sq ft. So, for us (and the assorted clients, employees and visiting relatives) I guess the perfect size is 5000 sq ft.

In a production environment, every cabinet has a particular code, such as B24BUTT, and a color suffix, such as WHI. An order is input with the complete code into the computer, and isn't changeable in the system. If changes have to be made, you have to cancel the previous order and input the order with the correct code, such as B24BUTTIVOR. Every cabinet, even if the "same" cabinet, will have a unique identifying code that identifies which cabinet is being produced and in what color. That is why you must cancel the order and reorder with the correct code. A cabinet production line is exactly that, a line. Once you submit an order, you get in line. If the company is a small one that maybe does 30 orders a month, you only get on or two orders per day, but as size increases, so does the number of orders submitted. If the original order was #102, and you wait 3 days to cancel and reorder, then maybe only4-5 people are in front of you in the production, and that might only translate to a week's time difference in the ETA. If the original order was submitted on a Monday, and you cancel on a Wednesday, you may or may not get the new order placed on a Thursday into line on Friday, or it might wait until Monday, depending on the number of orders submitted. If there are holidays in between that additional week of time needed for order 109 vs 102, then you may be into a two week lag time. In aa production builder, two weeks is a LONG time, and can throw off a LOT of scheduling. Time is money to a builder, and he'll charge you for that, and if other trades have to wait on the cabinets, that will get passed on to you in the form of a change order.

Old links are fine. You would be surprised that most people who want to ask what is essentially a new question like yours, instead post that question on a thread begun on a marginally similar subject from 2005; so thanks. I believe that there are some people who have large ponds who at least read this forum and might be happy to have something to share with a fellow semi-natural large clay pond fan. But I doubt a trash can bedding filter would help you much; it would just get overwhelmed. With minimal knowledge, I would still guess that time might be your friend. I do have a suggestion based on my experience with a small pond that might actually scale up well. I have a pond with a long/small recirculating stream. The stream does almost all of my filtering, and it is almost all I have. If you still have your equipment, I would suggest you create a stream to which you add lots of plants. I have plant clumps of 'sweet flag' that could be the size of a 20 gal pot or more. With a wider stream, you could generate huge root filtering masses that trap huge amounts of silt. I usually remove plants with their crud on occasion, but you could make it deeper than mine and just let the crud build up.

I understand you point, and in my career must, and do, work with engineers to ensure the safety of our massive structures, so I do have a high opinion of their education and skill-set, but also don't rely on just ONE engineer. There are many of them my employer hires in the interest of public safety. Equally, they do not just rely on their own advice, and take our opinions into consideration since we are there every day, and watch the structure, as massive as it is, contort and change with the temperatures and pressures it is subjected too. Its why the analogy of a doctor falls short. Having gone through cancer thrice now, I have seen hundreds of doctors to enable me to live through my own body trying to kill me, and not merely take the opinion of a single doctor. It is why I value the opinion of so many people on here. Without question, online for every person that tells you something will work, there are nineteen that say it won't, but even in the latter, there is value. While adverse to perhaps the original poster's idea, it is a prudent homeowner that carefully considers their ideology of why it is a foul idea. I would rather gather up information such as that, then pay someone to tell me what I wanted to hear. In regards to this situation, ideally there would be a master closet and master bathroom, with a second bathroom with space for a clothes washer and dryer, and that is just not all going to happen in an area that is only 16 foot by 24 feet. But my girlfriend brings up another point of having a big third floor master suite: how cozy is such a big space going to be? That term "cozy" is subjective I know, but it 's a valid question I cannot answer.

what's the size of the rock, and what is the weight compared to a real stone?
i'd be interested in carving a structure with it but I wouldn't bother with hypertufa if I could pick a rock around the same dimension in the woods. lol

OOOH!! I have half a dozen links in my Favorites. In areas where there is natural rock and the cost of the real thing is too high, the home made rock is great. It can take some time to do though. A really good search line in Google is Creating cement decorations in the garden. I'll come back later with some book names. Some of this stuff will blow you away!! Sandy

clairdo - Those are great! Which recipe did you use? I've experimented with different ingredients and used colorants. Haven't been all that impressed yet.

The rock on the upper left... did you make that one as well? It's so realistic. Which recipe? Thanks.

My recipe for rocks is 1 portland cement, 1 peat moss and one sand. This means if you put 3 cups of cement you add the same amount of peat moss and sand. The sand should be fine like play sand.There are great instructions on the hypertufa forum.

I recently got a free cement mixer and was planning on doing some hypertufa - rocks and planters - but just got too busy to get started. Clairdo2 what did u do to form your rocks? Plastic bags? Holes in the ground?

so they wire is still inside of the rocks? or did u put a plastic bag over the wire to keep the tufa from going through the holes in the wire?

Yes the wire stays in and I put agricultural fleece over the wire to keep the tufa from falling through. I'm sure plastic would work just as well.
