Water plants food for muskrats?

Hello all,

I have two 30,000 gallon mud bottom ponds in NC. There are muskrats living in the shore line and digging holes to an extent that sometimes the banks fall in to the pond. This does not bother me, as I love to watch nature change nature. My question is; since muskrats are 95% vegetarian, will I be able to introduce plants, like waterlilies, cattails, or other marginals without loosing them to the wee beasties? I have tried introducing them before, but thought their disappearance was related more to my inept planting than to the rodents... was I wrong? Is there any hope of growing decorative plants in the ponds without capturing and removing the shoreline residents? Any advice is appreciated.
