Three very leggy large shrubs - what are they and how to prune?

Here are a few photos of the three large, leggy, top heavy shrubs that sit at the corner of our house. I think they've been here for nearly forever - since the house was built 20 years ago I bet.

2 shrubs/plants at the south eastern corner of the house are the same. These are very leggy, have lots and lots of branches, and are very top heavy. They're about as tall as my front porch. Here's a shot from afar where you can see a large clumping of branches/trunks:

A shot of the shrub at the north eastern corner of the house, which is much taller than the other two. It also has much curlier branches. It's leaves are different. However it's still got lots of branches at the base and I believe this one blooms little white flowers if I remember correctly:

SO - my questions are: any idea what these are, and any idea how I care for them?? How do I get them under control and prevent them from looking so gnarly???
