Hi here's my two centslol. First algae is runaway the most successful life form on earth. it has adapted to every conceivable habitat on earth. all that is absolutely required is a Very small amount of moisture . Like all life forms it can do far better with a reliable source of nutrition. So my point (finally) lol is that somehow it is finding a reliable source of nutrition!!! Since the object is not to increase the algae you must lower the availability of nutrition. Since your algae is green you know that it is finding nitrogen in a useable form. There are 3 ways to attack the problem none of which work .I believe it is totally impossible to remove alll algae from any environment. Laughable in a pond lol You can micro filter the water, Expose the spores to UV light. or introduce more desirable plants which will fix the nutrition . Vascular plants are far better at fixing nitrogen thus depriving the algae. Viola!! You still have algae but it's far less noticeable lol. In fact it can fall to such a low level that a search is required to find it. IME the most successful management is with healthy actively growing vascular plants. In my opinion this is really the ONLY method that works long term. The reason I wrote such a long winded answer is not only is this the runaway most common problem with ponds it requires a management plan from the very start of the pond. Another reason is because I was just reading about the soft landing on Titan largest moon of the planet Saturn. Only moon or planet with a nitrogen rich atmosphere. Believed to be much like primeval earth. Results have shown that there are several species of Algae that could survive in the conditions of the subsurface ocean . I was thinking that even if I moved my pond to Titan I still might have alge , geeesh lol gary

The slime is pretty common in water rooting, I think it's called mucky film or something quaint like that but like everyone has said, just rinse it off every few days when you change the water. I've had great success with rooting in water, I've had some spectacular fails too. The big game changer for me was actually changing the water and rinsing the film off. I didn't do it for years and easily 75% of my plants trying to root in water rotted. I'm currently experimenting with cuttings from an ancient hearty pothos using a rooting hormone in water. Seems a bit counterintuitive but it appears to be working nicely and almost halved the time it normally takes for the nodes to root out.

Yay for you! That's what's known as keeping at shock level - shocking is not just dumping chlorine in the pool and walking away. You have to keep at it until the chlorine overtakes the organics and the chlorine can get ahead and maintain. (hence, doing it every hour). We will be bringing our pool back from green after a horrific hail storm/wind storm on Tuesday. Stocked up with 11 1.5 gallon bottles of bleach to work on that this weekend. Sun and organics eat chlorine. So best to add just after sundown (like you did before bed), it will work more effectively (last longer and work longer before it will degrade due to sunligh), and clean organics (leaves, etc) out of the pool so chlorine isn't working on them and can sanitize the water. We scooped bags and bags of leaves out of the pool yesterday and today. No use pouring six bottles of chlorine in if there is that many leaves, IMHO.
