Name That Plant!

Wildflower Identification

This plant was pulled out of my ditch and replanted in my garden. It has a deep bulbed root tap. The flowers are fragrant. I thought it was a sundrop yet I read they have shallow roots this does not. Could it be an evening primrose? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and happy gardening!

This is an evening primrose, I'm pretty certain.

It is certainly an Oenothera but I can't tell you which species as I am only familiar with O biennis.

It's certainly a flax. You say 'down the road' as if this might be in a location where people have been active rather than a really wild place. Could it possibly be a stray plant of common flax, Linum usitatissimum, which is a crop grown in Texas according a quick Google. Just a thought.
