direct seeding or peat pots

Greetings, i am wanting to plant some alpine strawberry, bilberry, and poppies from seed. The area i want to plant is a grassy slope far away from my home. Being far i will not be able to water them or most likely to fertilize the soil. i reside just south of Philadelphia, Pa so the climate is very temperate and rainfall is good. My question is shall i turn the soil and remove grass and weeds then sprinkle seeds(i was imageing half in the autumn and half in spring), or, to start seeds in peatpots indoors over winter and then plant the pots in the spring?
