The root looks scary. Why don't you vegetation killer. The weed was sending me to the mental institution until I PUT MY HANFS on strazecide vegetation killer. The only ones I still pull by hands are those who decide to grow very close to the vegetable roots.

if its a mock orange.. and if its an unnamed variety ... which is obviously aggressive.. as many of the unnamed weed like ones are ... its about 10 feet too close to the house.. and probably will never smell i have two of this type.. and they are about 10 feet tall..; and 12 feet wide ... and have a bazillion quarter sized flowers and barely a scent... i have other less aggressive ones.. that have silver dollar sized flowers.. that you can smell from a hundred feet away ... its form.. makes it look like a recent planting.. some flowering shrubs can take a few year.. to get their act together.. and bloom with vigor ... and that SMALL brick planter area is not going to work .... but it never will if it keep getting cut back ... and if you have to do that.. and dont get the smell.. i dont know why he would want this rather ugly bush outside that glorious window .. frankly.. this thing needs go go out ont eh property line somewhere.. and be replaced with something smaller .... get a pic of the whole area... and visit the perennial or shrub forum.. for suggestions.... ken ps: it wont bloom this fall ... its a late spring bloomer

Thanks! I knew once I posted here I'd get an answer right away. I've been googling invasive vine purple for months thrying to find an image that matched! I can pull some from the lawn, but we've got so much of this (outside basement door and on north slope by garage esp, since we didn't plant grass in those areas) that I don't know if I can keep up with it, so I'll have to call UCONN to see what they recommend.
