Palatine-first time order

I haven't posted on this forum for awhile now. My roses suffered badly last year due to my lack of attention so I'm needing to get motivated and back in the swing of things.

After reading up on "who's who" to order from online, I decided, after reading the glowing reviews here, from Palatine Roses. The one pic that was posted of the HUGE bareroots made me drool lol!

So last night I placed my order for:

Crystalline HT(my current one is getting old and feeble)

Moonstone (never had this one)

Tropicana (only cause I had one years ago and loved the color)

Bordeaux Kordana (a mini to replace the other mini RRV killed)

Orange Flower Circus (a newbie-the pic looked nice)

I won't receive them till the end of March so I get to plan and dream till then! If any of you have grown Bordeaux Kordana or Orange Flower Circus, let me know how they've done for you.

I almost ordered Orange Flower Circus, too! The photo was gorgeous, but I couldn't find any other pictures of it online, anywhere! (Could you?) You will LOVE the roses you get from Palatine...our rose society has someone drive up there to pick up a huge order every fall. Ours were huge! It was the only time I've ever planted in the fall instead of in the spring...worked out great.

Hi Nancy,
Placed my first order to Palatine a few weeks ago. Decided to give them a try after hearing so many nice comments about the big & healthy roses they send. Also their roses are on 'multiflora' root stock & that seems to do better in my acid soils. I ordered:
Double Delight
Folklore
Goldsmith (Helmut Schmidt)
Parole
Stephen's Big Purple
Now if it'll just stop snowing & spring comes..............

The only caution I would offer is ... what rootstock are these roses on? In the U.S., 'Dr. Huey' is most-common, and it tolerates SoCal soils and water well. In some places, 'Fortuniana' is used -- and it, too, is great in SoCal soils. But at least some Canadian growers use Multiflora rootstock. That rootstock does NOT tolerate alkaline conditions very well. If you live in an area where there are, or have been walnut orchards, and/or Oak Trees, your soil may be in the slightly- acidic range. In some parts of SoCal, though, the soils and water are in the alkaline range. I had recurrent chlorosis problems here, with roses growing on multiflora rootstock. I think that, now, I have only one rose remaining on Multiflora. Thank God. Jeri

Nice to have you back again. I see Buttercup is resting up for the big push when the roses arrive. I also have newer plants of William R. Smith, Marie van Houtte and Mme. Antoine Mari. I'm sorry you lost the beautiful varieties you mention. For me it seems to take forever for many varieties to grow to a respectable size, although Duchesse de Brabant, Mme. Antoine Marie, Mlle. de Sombreuil and Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux have shot up fairly quickly. Souvenir de la Malmaison and The Faun have also been very good in that respect.

when I was looking at their website there was so many pretty roses and I went back and forth on some of the pinks but there was something about that one that just grabbed my heart I think it's going to be a winner. Tiffany Lynn is such a pretty shade of pink and is going to be surrounded by other shades of pink and lots of white and some purple delphiniums and foxglove. Hopefully we are South enough in Oregon that Savannah will be happy in our Heat.

Do not order from this Company . Paid for $263.00 of Hostas in May of 2020 and still not have received order 1.5 years later. Mutliple excuses and admissions from them that there are staffing issues, day care issues, illness issues. Have asked for an immediate refund to my credit card and their response was that I was harassing them. You are taking a huge risk with your hard earned money and time with this company.

Just made my first order to them. Thanks to forum members who posted, and my quick phone call....I got a long coveted Lucille Ball, and ordered Aloha, the Kordes apricot climber and Ann Henderson. They have been wonderful about communicating, and so pleasant on the phone. I know I will love my order, am sure you will too.
