Took a year but it finally happened

We have had a racoon visit and try to get the fish for a year now and this is the third visit since spring and usually he just tips a few plants over an maybe scratch a fish or two but last night he finally got my two favorites... he left me the four that I had absolutely no attachment to. I think he did those two on purpose, and boy oh boy he tore the daylights out of the pond this time, all of the plants were tore out an he even tore a slab of slate out of the pond to get to them..

mybusy, I am so sorry about the raccoon visit. And the loss of your favorite fish. That is always the way it happens. The most favorite and prettiest fish are always the ones that go missing first. I would have to put up a Fido Fence if I had a problem with raccoons. Glenda

So sorry for your loss mybusyfamily! Isn't that the way it always happens.....that they take your fav's. Guess its time to figure out a little more security. If you do get a fido fence, you could put it on a timer so its only on during the night. Good luck!

You are allowed to be excited here. Looking good! I really like the "grouping" as it is called on the Home Decorating forum. I am, I think, finally going to be able to blow up and print out some pictures Sheila sent to me a blue million years ago and you can believe it, I will be excited too. Three for each wall, just carefully chosen, like you have here, should be just fine. It's the cluttery junk that he's probably shying away from.

I do not know why some seem to hold their leaves and some lose them. I have many grafted forms that have a full head of leaves and bloom like crazy and then others leaves are very sparse, but still bloom like crazy. I have not been too concerned as they are all growing well. If they where dropping all of their leaves and flowers then I would be concerned. Losing leaves for dormancy reason is indicative of each individual plant. You may find that your Siam Yellow shows more yellow in later blooms. Very nice flower. Rick

DV - Thanks. :) They'll be a constant nightmare (on the "way back there" garden area) as I cheaped out and used fence pickets for the decking. But when money's tight, you do what ya' gotta' do. ;) Big - It's a "floating" deck. Framed in 2x6 (since it was ours, went overboard and did 16" OC). Sits on a ton (not literally, but it felt like it after moving/leveling them) of those deck-blox piers. It will be around (and perfectly level!) long after I'm gone. :) The walkways... well, they're not as imppotant as the deck, and I'm okay with replacing them from time to time. ;) It was fun and very satisfying tying two of my hobbies (gardening / carpentry) together to make something we all can enjoy. :) -John

Thank you so much for the kind words. No space is ever truly done but I'm going to try to enjoy it for a while before adding a few finishing touches. Magnaverde, what a pleasant surprise. I'm so happy you stopped by to see the pictures. Trailrunner, the drapes are custom. They were true budget killers LOL! I was proud of myself bc the room was done with mostly moderately priced items with some budget pieces mixed in but that all ended with the drapes. They are the most expensive thing in the room. I had never done custom drapes and boy did I have sticker shock. The fabric is really pretty. It's a Schumacher, mendhi. Here is a close up. It has slate blues, green, ochre. And the really large repeat sealed the deal. They are 116" tall. When I joined the board, someone introduced me to Sarah Richardson. That completely changed my approach to decorating. I had never incorporated vintage pieces into my dÃÂ©cor before. Plus, she mixes fabrics and patterns so well. I didn't have the guts to be as bold, but I tried! Here are a few of the vintage pieces that really makes it feel homey to me. Plus these items are inexpensive and therefore budget savers. empty frame, apple picking ladder Pair of mahoghany side tables with marbe tops. Brass candlesticks found on etsy ($10!) mtnrdredux, the rug is from overstock. I love Madeleine Weinrib rugs-maybe someday!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how you feel..a raccoon just got my fav fancytail goldie about 2 weeks ago. 3 koi before that. Lola was the only one I named, she was so pretty. I knew I jinxed myself as soon as I named her.
This reminded me to get out there and set that trap again for tonight! He's smart..he reaches over the thing that trips the trap to get the bait..always takes the bait and trap doesn't shut. lil u-know-what. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. ((hugs)) gotta st that trap now b4 it gets too dark!

I was having a terrible time with raccoons. They were messing up my pond and had made a latrine in my vegetable garden (very unhealthy). So I got a havahart, baited it with marshmallows, and caught him the first night. Caught another one the next night. My neighbor thinks they're cute and puts out cat food for them every day!
