missing/dead fish

Hi all...

Just found this forum and am hoping someone might have some ideas about our missing and presumed dead goldfish and koi.

We have a large natural pond in our yard. It measures about 35 feet long by 20 feet wide and is 2.5 to 3 feet deep in the middle although shallower along the sides.

Several years ago we put our first batch of goldfish in and while there are times during the summer when we don't see them due to algae etc. We take pleasure at their periodic appearances- most notably one early morning to spawn!

At the end of the last fish season ( i.e warm weather) we had at least 30 adult fish and too many of the small babes to count. The majority of the adults were all pretty good sized - at least 4 inches and some even larger including two Koi.

Sadly, we seem to no longer have fish!

We live in the country and expect that the herons take there fair share of the smaller ones - but are really hoping to solve the mystery of what happened to the big guys.

Anyone have any experience with a heron eating fat 6 inch goldfish?

What about frogs?

We do have an off and on bullfrog who I'm sure takes a few but we've never had a full wipeout.

Everything else about the pond seems fine. Tree frog tadpoles are happy, plants are happy - aquatic bugs happy.

Just no fish....

Would love to hear any thoughts, advice and/or experiences.
