Name That Plant!

Very fragile plant, not sure what it is.

I planted this in my little succulent rock garden inside, and it is quite soft in the leaves and seems very droopy and possibly over watered at the store. I just don't know what it is, other than the container it came in said mimicry plant. I don't think that's it. Anyone know?

It looks like Livingstone Daisy to me.

It was in amongst the succulents at the store, and the leaves are very succulent like. I looked up livingstone daisy, doesn't match. Anyone else have an idea? Thanks moleman83 for trying to help me!

I feel rather dim witted right now. I never thought about the water being the culprit in making the leaves brown. I had the same problem with my "lucky bamboo" and had to start letting my water sit out for a day or two before I watered it to get the chemicals to evaporate before watering it. Makes sense if they are in the same family. For some reason it seems to love the south window. It gets plenty of light in the morning but shaded in the evening. But sadly if it is going to get much taller I will have to move it. It is in a hanging pot I made for it. And I don't think I have to worry about over watering it, it is a very thirsty plant! But thanks for the watering idea, I never thought about it.

I'm a mother of 3, and now a grandmother of 3! I'm stay- at-home, but not by choice... I'm partially disabled. I fight Lupus and injuries from an auto accident on a daily basis, but I'm very lucky to still be able to garden! I was so happy to find this forum last year... I stopped in to ask a question, and I've been here ever since! The people here are the best, nicest, most generous people on the entire internet, and I'm proud to call them all my friends! It's really their fault that I'm so addicted to Hippeastrum bulbs... enablers, every one! The best I can do is continue the process and pass on the addiction! For those of us in the northern zones, Hippeastrum bulbs are a Godsend! They keep the winter blues at bay long enough for spring to arrive every year! I just love my bulb collection, and couldn't imagine not having all these awesome plants to care for! I grow mine as houseplants, never forcing a dormancy... although, I've been thinking about trying it on a few bulbs, mainly to have winter color from bulbs I already have! Otherwise, I'll have to buy new ones every year... wait, that's not so bad! I've even branched out into other Amaryllids and tender unique bulbs. It's a bulb thing! Anyway... welcome to the group! It's the time of year where bulb purchasing and growing is in full swing, and the photos are just starting as bulbs begin to bloom! It gets pretty interesting around here! We talk about all sorts of stuff, and in the off-season, I post photos of my gardens outside just to keep the color and flowers going! Once, we even posted photos of ourselves... Cindee started a thread... it was great! We all got to "meet each other", sort of! We should do it again! Well... you'll have to excuse me... gotta tinkle! LOL!

Mrs tlc, It is not caused by where you grow it or even what you cross pollinate it with. If you then saved the seeds from the cross pollinated fruit, thats when you would get an odd cross in the seeds next plantings. The oddball cross only shows up in the next years fruit from seeds you saved, not in this years fruit. Many times I have cross pollinated just to get the fruit to eat when there were no male flowers from that same type plant. Heaven forbid I save and plant the seed from a jack-o-lantern and cantaloupe cross and get a jack-a-lope ;-) Lou

Are the leaves opposite or alternate?

Could you take a photo with something added to give some sense of scale (ruler, coin, etc.)?

Well that coin never gets loose in the US, that I've ever seen. I'd guess that's some type of Delosperma, but it would just be a guess.

It's apparently a Canadian 2-dollar coin. 28 mm in diameter: essentially 1 1/8 inches. (I assume "toonie" is a combination of "two" and "loonie" -- the nickname for the Canadian 1-dollar coin, which features a loon.)

The plant looked Delosperma-ish to me too, but I don't see Delospermas much any more, and it's not in the best of shape.

I think the leaves are opposite, which would fit Delosperma.

There are some Crassulas, though, with leaves that shape.

Should it bear Delosperma flowers, that would make it definite!

I got one at a BBS this year, so hopefully they're making a come-back. It's an adorable plant, mine hasn't bloomed yet either although I mangled it into several separate sections, so a recovery was expected. Does Delosperma bloom seasonally or opportunistically upon maturity?

I am curious also as to how the Canadian coin got in the picture ?
On another note, try posting in the cactus & succulents forum.
It may take a couple of days to get a reply but other than that go back to the store and ask the manager.

purple, apparently it blooms from late spring until frost. I don't think I have a "full sun" place to put anything that short.... Well, maybe, if I could find red or white.

dirt_farmer, the Canadian coin got into the picture because I asked above for a photo showing the scale of the plant ("ruler, coin, etc.").

The OP is Canadian; I'm not -- and from purple's comment and location I assume she isn't either. AFAIK, I never saw that particular coin before, so I checked online (Canada coin "polar bear") to find its diameter.

I should have mentioned, I am a Canadian, in Saskatchewan, one of the prairie provinces. Very very very cold here in the winter. I am talking -47 Celsius. You can't go outside in that weather with one inch of skin exposed, or you freeze it within minutes. I worry about some of my plants this winter, so I bought some grow lights to try that out. I went crazy over the summer and brought home every plant I could find on kijiji LOL Thanks for the help you all, This site is amazing!

Thanks so much for the help gang! I do believe it is Delosperma. It has now perked up after Ii watered and fertilized with succulent/cactus fertlizer by Schultz.
