Shrub suggestions for southern Georgia?

We are planting the foundation of our house one side at a time, as we can afford it (time + money).

On one side, we have planted 3 tea olives at the corner, with 4 soft touch hollys along the main wall, and two august beauty gardenias on the other side of the a/c unit on that wall. This is all bordered by monkey grass.

Also on that side is a (side) porch area, then a double garage. The next area is the front of the house, in front of the garage. The plan recommended to us was monkey grass in the entire bed between the walk and house. I'm not crazy about this. My wife wants azaleas, but I think I want something more like a holly on this wall too. The bed is about 3 ft deep. This wall has one of those ugly gas meters, too, that needs to be concealed.

Can anyone recommend a compromise for us in south Georgia?

(I hope to get home in time to take photos, if that helps)

Thanks!
