I thought I'd done all nescessary in the transplant: plenty of original soil, and even a few corms. We don't have any smaler plants here yet(east Iowa, 5a), but when they appear, you've encouraged me to try again. Ive been surprised that jacks do so well in what seems marginal soil and site conditions. thanks again, ron

Dee - In my experience JitP, at least the native ones, are pretty hardy. Three winters in my pot ghetto speaks to that. If you transplant them now, and then they look like crap for the rest of the season, perhaps even disappearing eventually, don't fret, they usually will show up again next year. If I had to pick a time, I would guess that the Fall would be the best time to move them just like the rest of the Spring flowering bulbs. Just move them before they go dormant and you forget where they are (unless they fruit). If they are in more sun than optimal, that dormancy will be sooner rather than later. I guess you could always mark them really well, but what is the fun in that? : D

Jacks move easily. Not sure where yours are in the growing process. Mine are just peeking out. If you dig deep enough and get a good clump it is possible to not even disturb the roots and corm. I have moved mine around my lot often. I have some in pots that do return each year. Now or after they begin die back are the best times. If you move them while they are blooming they may die out but will return next year. The lilac you can also dig a clump of root stock out. I was told doing this will shock the new clump and it will take five years to bloom..you may be better off just starting from nursery stock.

Sadly I disagree and believe it's a Pinellia which have turned out to be highly invasive.
